From what I can tell from Jags fans on their forums, they plan to extend him with a new contract rather than use the option. The fifth year option would make him one of the highest paid LBs in the league and it's cheaper to just give him a new deal.

This got me wondering where these fines go. 50% go to NFLPA retired players fund and the rest to various charities.

With the exception of knowing our obvious needs and who we were talking to along the way, my question is this: How did so many people start on this Jalon Walker frenzy? I think this--everyone wants to have a voice, make a prediction. Now with social media and 24 hour tv, networks, etc. it is more like a middle school grapevine than it is a process where people actually dig for real evidence and reasons. Speculative journalism is lazy, and since there are now 2,348.356 podcasters with basement studios blasting nonsense into our phones all day, I think they just cut and paste ideas. Yes, coaches lie and mislead, but I don't think Morgan or Canales did. You are only as reliable as your sources. Was Morgan more deliberate this year? I think he heard the gossip and decided to downplay WR. He said, (paraphrasing) "We like our WR room. We will probably add to it at some point." Not a lie, but definitely downplaying things. I was convinced that we needed a blazer to keep safeties honest, but to be honest, I am not sure that we have the QB with the arm to keep safeties honest. We have Coker who is 6'1", Theilen is 6'2", and Legette is 6'3" and now TMac is 6'4"+. It seems size has more value than blazing deep speed. If I had known they thought that, I might have gone with TMac all along--I thought he was not a good fit. And if you look at the Panther guide and consider the talent they met with in the first round, there was only one offensive player--TMac. There was another quote that Morgan made that might have been a bit revealing or at least directive. (Paraphrasing) "We want players that were productive in college." Well, TMac was very productive. In 2023 and in 2024, he averaged 108.8 yards per game. He is also a great artist. We had a need at edge, but with Clowney, Wonnum, and Jones, were we OK if we drafted a second round Edge? Was Walker the answer? Unlike Hunter, he is a versatile player who could be awesome in the right system, but if used as a pure edge, he is not a top 10 player. I was convinced that we would sign Jalon and as much as I like the kid, I could not feel good about the pick. Mykel Williams scared me. Both might be great players, but I could not see it. So was Scourton productive? He was as a Jr when he was standing. When asked to be other things, he lost his edge (pun intended). In essence, I think we got the best pure edge when you take away the other things he was supposed to do. Walker's productivity was based on his versatility--something he would lose as a pure edge--so we would not really be meeting needs at edge. Scourton, on the other hand, is better when not asked to be versatile. Princely had 10.5 sacks in the SEC. It simply makes sense.

I think they will too. Renfrow will use this opportunity to get in shape and get paid for it. After he's cut he will probably get picked up by someone after preseason.

You also have to consider the cap, they're paying Trevor, and others premium dollars, so honestly they may not be able to afford the 5th year option.

Stats and grades are all good but the biggest factor is why they team that drafted him does not want to pick up his option. That to me says more than anything. I'm watching every pro snap before I decide to give up a pick AND a big contract to.

Too many examples of head cases and just down right bad guys in the NFL to think that Shedeur's "fall" was anything other than the fact that teams either didn't need a QB or thought there were better options to get them where they were trying to go. I think all of the off-field stuff is a tiebreaker when the on-field stuff makes two picks interchangeable.

The only way I see it happening is if they bring him in as the backups backup because they want a leader on the defense in the locker room to help solidify the culture, especially with all the new additions on that side of the ball. So basically.....it won't happen. I appreciate everything Shaq did for this team, truly an underrated guy who had the misfortune of playing for some bad HCs/DCs/Teams starting with the end of Rivera's tenure.

I feel like its been proven over and over again at QB. You can't take the guy that was handed everything on a silver platter. This isn't a case of he is just so much better then everyone Colorado would be crazy to not recruit him and make him the man. This is a case of the coaches son getting special treatment. They retired his number for fugs sake. QB in the NFL is too hard, you have to be locked in. Sanders does not have the mental makeup to be that guy. Then you add all the flags about his processing ability and not being able to throw with anticipation/throw receivers open. Doesn't even have the arm to wow you and think there is something to work with and mold.

That's a good question. But his stats look good, PFF grades are good and there aren't any off-field issues I'm aware of. It could be as simple as the new regime doesn't value him the same way the old one did. Sometimes when new coaches/GMs take over teams players like this can slip between the cracks. In any event, I feel like he's worth looking into.

I understand that but it would be good if he could help our young guys develop. A lot of knowledge, he has. Maybe he could be part of the coaching staff?

I think this Belichick to UNC move is in the end....going to provide some entertainment people didn't really see coming. For as boring as Bill was in NE....I think old discarded to college football Bill, with the new 20 year old chief of staff of all things Bill girlfriend, is going to get weirder.
