Nic Scourton- PFF Highest Rated Rookie (Week 5)

Fair enough. I am convinced with Tet and Scourton surely looks the part. A couple more pan out it will be a great draft. -

I am not ready to say that because we kind of perpetually stay in this cycle of looking for flashes, wishing and hoping. Do I THINK they look better than our normal class to date? Yes. Am I gonna count those chickens based on general Panthers luck? Hell no. I know that I want to keep seeing more of the young guys just to see what we have in general. That I definitely know. -

No need to try to flex. It's early and can't we just be happy to see some promise from our young players? Rookie kicker looks legit, rookie TE caught the GWTD, rookie WR looks to be legit, undrafted rookie CB looked good in limited snaps, rookie edge looks legit and the other has potential. This could be the rookie class we need to jump start this rebuild. -

Bryce was a Fitterer pick. I do believe more could have been done to bring in competition. Most GMs are hit and miss. -
We ran a lot of three safety big nickel looks against Miami. Still a 3-4 base but you won't see base very often at all.

I have a feeling it will be bittersweet, expecting how that game goes. I haven’t watched any Cowboys football this year. So I am not making a claim specifically on them…. The defensive rankings suggest they are tough against the run and the pass D is the weakness but stats based on yardage can be very misleading. Without looking at their games and results, things like making opposing offenses one dimensional via the scoreboard affect those stats. -

Sure. Eggs are still on the menu. This class looks good though, overall. Granted we have a low floor for making the field so ‘grain of salt’ applies but it is higher this year. It will likely be higher next year. -
Yeah. I think they are working towards much improved. The ILBs though, are gonna hold it back. I am not saying Much Improved means top defense. Instead of having 7 or 8 weak links, we may be down to 3 or 4 obvious laggards.

Fair. But by how much? Not sure we will really know until after the Jets.

All of this I agree with but there is still a fact that remains that his PHYSICAL weaknesses are still the same physical weaknesses that Bryce has. I literally said in the second part of my post that I dont think he'll turn the corner because he DOESNT have the fire and passion that Brees had/has which goes to exactly what you said in the bryce falling apart mentally. That said on sheer look, if you go and watch the highlights of Brees from San Diego, they look a lot like the highlights of Bryce. Summation, does he possess a lot of the physical traits and even some of the mental traits that Brees had? Sure. Will he get there? I highly doubt it because it appears he spends too much time watching netflix and not enough time fixing the things he needs to improve on (IE sliding, deep ball, and Footwork).

I do think it's improved but still not good. "Improved" isn't saying much when you just have to avoid being the worst ever to pull it off. LOL

Reminder that brown was supposed to be Herbie.

NOT a fan of Mark Schlereth. I am thrilled to see Greg Olsen in the booth. -
Brown and Horn are legit. Rest of the D needs work but those are 2 real solid pieces to build around. Health obviously the only caveat, but Horn's injuries seem to be behind him (knock on wood) and Brown has picked up right where he left off after missing a year. Not trying to beat the dead horse but I still think we need to switch back to the 4-3 and get Brown a pass rush specialist to pair with in the middle. Imagine prime KK Short with Brown eating up space. Star was solid but Brown is on another level -- prime KK could've put up 20 sacks in a year if our D was the same then except with Brown instead of Star.

Most people agree the roster has talent. Dan has been hit and miss. The biggest miss currently is the lack of urgency with the QB room. Let's be real here. We aren't going to get to go up against Penix Jr and Tua every week. Even Drake Maye dumped on us. It's a marathon not a sprint. And I am a lifelong Panthers fan but I know there's going to be another egg laid sooner or later. -
Arm tackles are supposedly a bad thing...not when that "arm" is attached to D Browns body. lol
