Thielen was a "dawg" like Dan Morgan likes to say. And they replaced him with puppies. The analytics are probably saying this is more targets for younger receivers they are hoping to develop, specifically the first round pick from 2025. The eye test is going to show a very inexperienced group of WRs that are going to have some serious growing pains, for a 3rd year QB who has not yet proven to be the guy going forward. It's crazy how in the literal first game of his NFL career, Cam Newton showed everyone he was a star QB and there was never any doubt about that. It almost didn't even matter who was around him, although he definitely had a serious lack of talent at WR for most of his career. Bryce is going into his third season and there is still a ton of doubt, and who is around him is seen as crucial for him to have success. I don't like it.

Everyone says AT was old and slow but the one thing he could do consistently was get separation. That takes skill and it's been a huge issue in our WR for years. And while Moore may be a great locker room guy and our WR coach may be a 12 year vet, he's not playing in the game. Vets like AT do what they do because they can see things others don't and exploit it. The DB interview I mentioned before was with Stephon Gilmore after his DPOY season. He was pulling the younger DBs aside showing them things you wouldn't even think you'd be able to tell from the way the receiver was standing. Seeing what a DB or LB is biting on in game that can give you that half step advantage is huge and we don't have that experience in our WR group right now and I think it could end up hurting us. None of our receivers have lined up against NFL corners successfully on a regular basis. Having someone that can walk over and give you a tip to get a half yard separation can be a difference maker.

Official Panthers Roster Cuts (Updated)
OldhamA replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
We only fielded about 4 NFL calibre players on that unit last year. -
only 1 QB in the history of mankind has managed a winning record with his opportunities in the David Tepper era. Bring in PJ. He has NFL tools. He will at least be entertaining if called upon. How is that not better than Andy. *PJ Walker bandwagon is back up now that it is....not...time for for the percolator.

I remember people here saying it was ridiculous that we didn't draft Hooker, and that he would be someone we regretted passing on. -

decent odds the present cycle continues. Where you might not draft the QB and go the random available vet route like we tried in the Teddy or Darnold/Baker route. We most certainly can't afford to move up in a draft go get "our guy". The roster is still paying the price for that type move last time. -
I mean, he did miss 7 games.....and still almost lead the Panthers in every statistical production category.
-
I like it when they use Tremble in the fullback role as well. They can send him out on routes or let him help block for our RBs.

Yeah he was drafted and stayed on the Lions active roster for a couple years. That's an upgrade over Plummer. -

Didn’t he have a major surgery done to him? still, 27, 32 doesn’t matter he hasn’t shown improvement. I doubt a change of scenery will change that. I doubt think the system he was in or the team was the issue with him. I would honestly rather have a young QB who maybe raw but could actually be good with time and coaching. I don’t get why everyone has such low expectations for back up QBs. Back up QBs can be developed into starters. Why invest in a player who doesn’t have much potential? -
I get all that. I'm just saying, XL and Coker had over a full year of mentorship from Thielen and they were lucky to have it. I just think the vet leadership value is a bit overblown here. By all accounts, David Moore is a great locker room guy and their WR coach was a 12 year pro bowl vet.

Hooker is hot ass but he at least has an NFL skill set -
Look it up. On a much better offensive team he was worse in every way

City planners have let down the public and honestly should be removed from their seats. You cannot continue to let people move to Charlotte and provide no relieve or infrastructure. We are not a big city, we do not have infrastructure of a big city but we keep giving out permits to builders like sunflower seeds. We do not generate enough revenue to account for the inflow of people. Charlotte/NC need to start taxing new arrivals to area and that tax should directly go into public transportation development/city infrastructure but we got too many idiots that don’t know how to run a city.

I think this is kind of puff because he is clearly focused on bringing in receivers that fit his old style. -

He finished the preseason 22-of-40 passing for 187 yards, zero touchdowns, three interceptions and two fumbles. The Lions were held without a touchdown and were limited to just one field goal in 20 preseason drives with Hooker at the helm He was horrible this preseason. Add to the fact he is 27, unless DC is a true qb whisperer then this dude aint ever seeing the light of day on a nfl field. If ben johnson couldnt get him going in the right direction then I dont know what to say -

yeah but he will never be a starter. at 32 he will still have really low mileage on him -

Hooker starting over Dalton would solely be due to injury or potentially due to an obvious tank effort down the stretch. -

I don't think most actually watch a snap of his 2024 or 2025 preseason games. There is a reason a 3rd round draft pick was jettisoned so quickly for.....Kyle Allen. He is atrocious.
