New York Times: Is Panthers QB Bryce Young a Lost Cause
strato replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah he is playing not to get hit. It showed in the preseason too He really must not like that stepping into the throw and paying the price to make the play thing very much -

Bryce plays to not die. The only defenders who don’t outweigh him by 100 pounds are corners, safeties and some LBs. think about that. EVERY lineman he sees every week has at least 100 on him. Broski is just trying to live out his last days in the NFL and not sustain a life altering injury. Similar to XL, Bryce has his money, just a WHOLE lot more. He’s set. Barring financial insanity, he’ll never have money problems. He knows he’s not cut out for this line of work. He lacks the tools and besides that, has no dog in him. -
Seems pretty obvious on a macro scale that he put out the edict of save Bryce at all costs. Whatever it takes you do it. That explains the 2024 draft and FA. if in fact Bruce and dad lobbied Tepper for XL it goes micro. And makes a lot of sense. I knew or felt strongly that XL was a pick for the roster they had last year as opposed to long term I always felt that Brooks was a pick for Bryce because of the pass catching aptitude he displayed. And you have to remember he was supposed to be ready by camp. It was not a future pick either.

The bryce effect -
Kaprizov signed a 8 year 136m deal worth 17m AAV.
-
He needs a new QB first. The rest can be figured out after that.

Maybe. Either team could drop a duce on gameday. They got punched in the face by the Colts so maybe but probably
-
Much respect for T-Mc's ability as a WR. That said, I feel he need coaching to develop effective catching skills which would elevate him to the next level. Keep Pounding

Things like that are why I think Tepper is still heavily involved in the major decision making. It's not like this is somr clever 4d chess move. It's basic strategy. Now if Dave forced the issue, then it, and the moves of the past 3 off seasons make a lot more sense.

The Titans just did this with Ward Callahan should’ve been fired last year. They had the 1st overall pick and knew they needed a QB Callahan showed he didn’t belong last year but instead they give him a second chance. Continues to show he isn’t a HC and now their number 1 overall pick will have a new HC going into year 2 If you’re going to draft a QB then clean house and have the GM, HC and new QB all on the same timeline -
Just swap 7ths with the giants and get Russ. Panthers country. Let’s die.
-
Reasonable. It would give fans reason to watch. Another thing, about the coach situation. We know we have Canales because no one else of any merit was touching David Tepper and Bryce Young. That’s a damn double whammy right there. Who could we get now? Reich was almost surely told he could get his QB but obviously did not. That has to be something that will factor, getting your own QB is all Tepper has to entice a new coach.

They are gonna beat us by 30.

Its a tough spot to be in but it's of Teppers own making. From where I sit im not sure DC should be the guy to coach the team much less pick it's future qb. -
I know exactly how this week is going to go since I'll have T-Mac, Waddle, and Gordon in my fantasy lineup this week. T-Mac gets doubled on every play because we have nobody else to fear and has low stats. Without Hill, now Horn shadows Waddle and takes him out of the game with even worse stats than T-Mac. So they kill us with Achane in the short passing game and they never get into goal line situations so Gordon doesn't get me a TD.
-
What they should do now is as soon as they pull the plug on Young is to cycle thru the qb's on the roster and limp thru this season. All the while looking for a vet to start next season. When the season is over determine whether you're in position to draft a possible rookie to build on or you're picking defense. If it's defense I would keep Canales one more year to see if he pulls it together or is a waste of time. If it's qb I would seriously consider finding a new coach to pair together as im not confident he's the guy.

One thing that has to be discussed is if DC is brought back for year three on a short leash and we draft a new qb. Then if DC gets fired the new qb will have 2 head coaches in 2 years. Thats not good. -
New York Times: Is Panthers QB Bryce Young a Lost Cause

It was the culmination of many things like over throws, dirt balls and 3th down passes to wtf knows. The last straw was the final 4th down pass that sailed over the bench to god knows who. -
Makes perfect sense. Which is why I believe that was off the table for some reason. To the point I just now thought I wonder if Bryce lobbied Tepper for Andy. You get Canales working with a QB that can factor in the future, or you tread water another year with Andy who will be retired - he ain’t going anywhere else… It doesn’t make sense unless hands were tied. But nothing about Bryce Young ever made any sense. edit: PS the thought of Bryce lobbying for Andy made me think about his dad lobbying for XL. If dad wanted XL wouldn’t you infer that Bryce wanted XL? Extrapolate that one….

And the answer is something about making chicken salad or a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Take your pick. -

Pretty understandable tbh. Game 1 - Not good by any stretch. Game 2 - Terrible for one half, decent for another. Game 3 - Well, he didn't need to do much, but we won! Game 4 - He legit was just missing people left and right. He threw the ball into an opponents facemask. Dirted another 4th down ball. Just never gave his receivers a chance. A lot of us were pretty negative about his ability to handle pressure (not just the blitzing kind), and he's just shown that he is basically 'just fine' when everything is going right, but can't elevate anything around him. So... We got our answer. -

The camel’s back met the last straw. Is that an Athletic article? That would be Person, at least contributing probably but likely him. fuging Captain Obvious with that losing record quote. Man, I had Young off of my draft board because of his measureables and when it got really hot and heavy I looked at his video and he was still off my board. I can’t help but believe there were teams that felt the same. -

It's just time to pull the plug. We need to move on and Bryce needs to go seek a fresh start elsewhere. For every spark of hope there's a dozen seemingly hopeless counters.
