  1. Past hour
  2. so.....the entire second round is essentially holding out for guaranteed contracts.
  3. This is always a non-story by the time camp begins.
  4. I've really only begun to pay attention this week being that training camp is looming, so I was personally caught off guard by the fact that Nic Scourton remains unsigned. That's not necessarily bad news, but it's not necessarily good news either. Apparently it's a thing with this year's draft class. "Of the 32 players selected in the second-round, 30 remained unsigned and the clock is ticking. "Already we've seen one second-round pick hold out from the start of training camp with that player being Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris did not report with the rest of the Chargers' rookies on Saturday due to his contract situation, a issue that could impact nearly every other team in the league. "For the Panthers, defensive end Nic Scourton is the player to watch for when rookies start showing back up to the team facilities next week. "The 51st overall pick is one of the 30 second-rounders who has yet to sign their rookie contract and the reason why is due to the other two that have actually signed. "Cleveland Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins each signed fully guaranteed contracts as the first and second players drafted in the second-round. Prior to this year, second-round picks never received a fully guaranteed deal, only players selected in the first-round." https://atozsports.com/nfl/carolina-panthers-news/panthers-nic-scourton-contract-second-round-pick-training-camp-hold-out-tre-harris/ So, I suppose we'll see what's what pretty soon. It's definitely something to monitor.
  5. overwhelming majority of kids in travel ball aren't getting scholarships though because most teams are rec caliber (and not watched by scouts) and parents/leagues sort of helped create this system and narrative IMO where travel ball is now oversaturated and most of it is simply expensive rec ball. is travel beneficial for some athletes to get more exposure? Sure. The ones travel actually existed for. I still think travel has expanded entirely too broad at this stage......where they will now have 5 teams per year in your backyard area pending they can get parents to write those checks. Ain't no scout ever laying eyes on 90%+ of the kids in travel ball at this stage of where it has morphed into.
  6. Im really curious to see how the defense is going to look once its playing with some leads.
  7. Looks like another one jumped the gun here. Why do I get the feeling there'll be an infinitely longer leash for a certain former Arizona WR?
  8. "Late surge from Bryce Young was biggest leap any NFL QB has taken in 25 years" “The most encouraging part of Young’s performance was what we see under the hood,” explained Clawson. “He wasn’t dinking and dunking his way down the field. He had the fourth-longest average throw length (9.5 yards downfield) in the final three weeks, coupled with the sixth-lowest off-target rate (8.0 percent). Only 30 percent of his passing yards came from YAC in this stretch, the lowest rate in the NFL among quarterbacks to start the final three games. So don’t confuse the zero turnovers for not taking risks.” https://share.google/5UML8zZg9Rc5V0qOe
  9. Today
  10. He looks good on paper!! https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/panthers-ufl-cornerback-120232171.html
  11. Travel Ball is the way to get your kid a full scholarship. I have 2 coworkers that got their sons scholarships playing baseball. One even got both his sons in private schools that way.
  12. I wonder how much small media will be allowed at training camp with it being closed to fans. My favorite part was youtubers live streaming on the down low...Don't really give a poo about how Darin Gantt and David Newton feel about the practices.
  13. This younger generation requires instant gratification and there is no patience anymore. Show out in your first NBA experience ever or you suck. It makes me chuckle. So ridiculous
  14. yeah, sports at all levels is screwed. Agree w/ all you said. really wish rec leagues could break travel up and make a comeback. 99% of travel ball is just rec ball but with an insane price tag.
  15. ahhh the year with him and Kupp the year he had his triple crown. Waltz to the ship easily. They both costed me a championship this past year though.
  16. I mean, he's basically averaging 1100 yards per year with only one year of decent QB play where his TDs and efficiency numbers dramatically increased. The dude's a stud.
  17. In general, It's just unfortunate that he got hurt. But...I'd argue that all's well that ends well; the Panthers are in a better place in regards to the RB room, and, not only has CMC had the opportunity to almost win his team a championship in overtime of the Super Bowl, he's playing for a franchise known for solidity if not historical excellence.
  18. Ummm not sure adding anther 5'9 180 pound soaking wet forward is the way to go here.....
  19. What has happened in HS athletics busted full force into the college world with this NIL/transfer portal stuff. HS sports has been jacked up for a long time now. You have all these "prep schools" that are basically just diploma mills for athletes who hoover up all the good athletes they can get and they're all on scholarship. Then they go out and recruit decent athletes with rich parents to come onboard and pay outrageous tuition while they tout their success at getting their athletes college scholarships. Yeah, those athletes getting college scholarships are the same ones you're giving scholarships to so that you can use them to recruit the rich kids whose parents can pay for it all. You see the same thing in youth travel ball leagues. The whole thing is just getting crazy.
  20. It's your right to refer to it as vague, but it still flouts the theory of "zero evidence" that Tepper is changing. Here's another: "Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan are reportedly being given a larger leadership role within the organization. Panthers owner David Tepper 'has taken a more hands-off approach of late,' according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. 'He's trying to trust Canales and GM Dan Morgan to get it right, knowing that the roster requires patience in its current state,' Fowler wrote. 'We shall see if he holds to that.'" https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10146782-report-panthers-david-tepper-has-taken-a-more-hands-off-approach-to-team ""David Tepper just wants to win and he's gonna supply everything that we need to win.. Things are changing around here and things are looking really positive" ~ Dan Morgan https://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1917639137550627107?t=6vgo8yXTO6eD0Gb55hyzNg&s=19 From about 2:15-6:35, Julian Council, Locked on Panthers, gives his take on whether Tepper seems to be changing (and specifically referenced the war room in his analysis): Dean Jones of Cat Crave on David Tepper in the war room. "He was an innocent bystander throughout a hugely important decision, placing full trust in Morgan and Tilis to make the right call." Jones also quoted Pat McAfee: "What I noticed though, at one point, they looked at (David) Tepper to get an answer, Tepper didn’t say sh*t. All anybody has said about Tepper is that he’s hands-on, hands-on, hands-on. Too handsy, too involved. He’s not letting the football people do their thing. We just watched in the biggest moment for their franchise, a top ten pick, he just sat there and let everybody do their jobs. I think if you’re a Panthers fan, you love everything you saw there." https://catcrave.com/silence-from-david-tepper-becomes-panthers-loudest-victory Granted, you're not getting a major headline here, but that's not going to happen anyway. Fowler isn't exactly a nobody, everybody knows McAfee, and you also have some locals that follow the team (including Dean Jones). Of course you have a right to believe that Tepper hasn't really changed, but to say there is no evidence that he just may be changing is not really true. It's just not. Hate the guy, but the way that he has handled this current regime is different than he handled previous teams, and his silence in the war room and publicly in general is different than years back.
  21. Ehhh im not mad either way I don't think hes garbage but he was and is overpaid.... but he was a skating turnover machine.
  22. My interpretation of his comments was somewhat different. And I took issue with his contract the day he signed. But it's all history now and doesn't matter in the big picture.
  23. Does anyone know how Plummer and Garbers have looked so far? I've neither heard nor seen much about them besides a view vids at rookie camp of Garbers
  24. yeah, Panther PR has done the Tepper is taking a backseat PR tour before. It wasn't true at all the first time we saw them attempt that. All the stuff you are referencing is stuff produced and put out by the Panthers. I'm not acting like owners aren't in the war room. I'm just saying Tepper is a proven commodity. He is what he is. And his tenure with BOTH his professional sports teams tell the exact same story about him. He is not patient. He didn't show patience last year. He moved on from an absurd investment 2 games into the season.....and a frankly unimaginable turnaround by Bryce that was only allowed by injury reset some things. I'm sure a billion times Raiders or Dallas or whatever fans convinced themselves their owners turned a new leaf too. I'm not buying that. There just isn't anything supporting Tepper isn't Tepper IMO.
