The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems
HaricotVert replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
@tukafan21 bro you outed yourself as TMacs agent already. Just own it -
We beat them in the 2018 opener iirc.
-
Chances of us scoring 40+ points? I don’t see it unless we get a couple of TDs from the D.
-
11 years. Man time flew. I was thinking 6 or 7 maybe.

this explanation doesn't help their cause.

That Matt Moore TD pass haunts me.

My question is...is he an upgrade or downgrade from Jewell? Idunno, but that one play vs Pats where he shot up the gap was impressive.

The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems

Two separate issues Yes, T-Mac 100% needs to be fed more, 8 targets out of 30 attempts when he's the only legitimate receiving threat right now is just dumb, but that has zero bearing on Rico's game. Again, 6 good plays by Rico does not make for a well called game by Canales, I don't understand why that's so controversial of a thing to say. Rico had a great game and final stats because he made a handful of great plays, not because Canales kept the Dolphins on their heels and because of it we ripped off constant 8-15 yard runs. Had that been how he put up the 200+ yards, I'd be the first person to jump on here and congratulate Canales for calling a great game, but that's just not how it played out. It's giving credit to Rico for the game he had, but still living in reality in the totality of the play calling of Canales from opening kick off to the final whistle. Outside of those few runs, you can't tell me you weren't screaming at the TV for the majority of the game with Canales boring and predictable play calling (and play design). That's all I was trying to say with this thread, that we can't give Canales a pass because Rico broke off a couple big plays, he still called a complete poo game as the offensive play caller. As that's exactly what happened a couple weeks ago. We win 30-0 in a rivalry game and half the fan base starts talking about how we're finally turning a corner and just stuck their head in the grounds to not see the glaring issues that we still saw in that game. Then we get utterly blown out by a team that wasn't a complete disaster in their own right and fans fall back in disarray. -
PFF always gives examples of why you pretty much have to largely just dismiss their methods at this point. Or maybe it's just select folks grading you got to dismiss but Carolina's grades always contain things that make ZERO sense. You can find it in some Bryce Young grades that make zero sense. Hell, one week Renfrow was the worst offensive player in his 15 snaps.....and he caught every catchable ball his direction, sprung Tmac for a HUGE play w/ his pick and didn't even get into run blocking that game. So it could just be some graders got bonkers subjective ways of going about it. But PFF is largely garbage for me at this point.

(Potential) 2026 GM Candidate List

I wonder if Joe Douglas (former GM of the Jets) would be a good fit. -
Last time we beat the Cowboys was that Thanksgiving game I think, with the powder blue uniforms. Iirc Luke had back to back int's...one of which was a pick 6 that ended with a Romo stiff arm lol. If I'm Dave, I'm starting Dowdle for sure this week!

Way too early to tell. We have a ton of cap invested in the OL and we need to see how that group looks against better competition than the worst teams in the league. Same with the defense. Beyond that I can agree that the recent draft picks are showing promise. But there's still an elephant looming large. The QB room. Yeah we're squeaking by teams like the Dolphins but as we get further into our schedule and play teams that have better rosters better QB's better defenses and good coaching staffs we're going to be talking about these things a good bit most likely. Just pace yourselves folks.

Rico had six runs that averaged for 27yds and that means the team is supposed to feed TMac?

Wish they could grade coaches on playcalling and execution of said plays..id love to see what our top 3 get everyweek

Dan has gone into each offseason with a target area to upgrade and has seemed to have done well. This offseason will probably be passing attack and linebacker -
Is this how the grass comes back to BOA?

Am I the only one that remembers what happened on 9/30/01? -
Drew Brees and Bryce Young have nothing in common other than Drew was a little bit taller. Other than that even when Brees was near the end he still had a better arm than Bryce Young. And Drew had a different physical build. In his prime it's not even close. Completely different players. It's the same with people saying early on Bryce was a smaller Russell Wilson. Completely different players physically. Both Brees and Wilson clearly regularly hit the weight room through their careers as well. Bryce Young has pretty much zero physical traits and he won't even try to put in some work in the weight room. Three years in a row he shows up looking exactly the same. People can talk about his frame and this and that and in some ways there is validity to it but let's be real there's no excuse for him not to even attempt given his aforementioned limitations. To not even try is the sign of someone who does not want to be great. Which is the complete opposite of what many people had him billed as before the draft. It's inexcusable.

This. I think this issue will be taken out of the hands of individual owners and become a major issue in the next round of CBA negotiations. -

I've said this too many times to count, but just enjoying wins because we get them so infrequently is how shitty franchises continue to be shitty, because their fans are "just happy" when they get flawed wins. I'd rather lose but show improvement in key areas such as play calling and QB play than win and still struggle in those areas. Because until we improve in those areas, this team is going nowhere, so what is the fun in "enjoying" the 3-5 wins we get where we still don't look great while doing it? I want to make the playoffs again, we won't get there because we win fluky games, we'll get there because we've improved as a team. Show me improvement in a loss and I'll enjoy watching that game more than wins like this, because I care more about our long term high level success than shitty wins in lost seasons. You watched that game and enjoyed a win, I watched that game and saw why we're still going nowhere as a franchise in the foreseeable future but won in spite of that. It's been a decade since we've been decent, how are you not sick of "enjoying" those type of games? -

Let’s be real. Three people run this team. Dundon, Tulsky, and Rod. -
Heard Canales say, I believe in the presser today, that play calling has gone back to Wallace and that has helped Rozeboom play faster also huge shout out to Brady C. That line looks so much better with him at RG then the other options
