why the carolina panthers will not* go bpa

I'm not buying this whole "blue goose" thing: Yes, I know that it sounds like a total contradiction from me when I decry the use of the term "smokescreen," but the idea of selecting any position at No. 28 just isn't sitting right. Sure it might be an old-school blue-collar football parlance for not getting blinded by need, but charming old guy saying or not, it doesn't sit right. The reason for this is fairly simple, the workouts. If the Panthers were really open to taking anyone in the first round we wouldn't have seen the overwhelming scouting of wide receivers, offensive tackles and cornerbacks in this class. Pair that with an early draft-week visit from Ryan Shazier and it all feels a little too neat and contrived. There's no better way to convince the world you're taking anyone than watching the wheels that have been set in motion, but it's a necessary move given there are two teams right behind Carolina.

I think Gettleman is being slightly disingenuous when he suggests BPA. What he means if there is a player whose value you can't ignore is there at 28 you take him. Doesn't mean if you have a DT who is a 23rd pick value and a WR who is 27th pick value you just take the DT because he is slighty better.

But id Calvin Pryor falls to 28 you run up and take him without hesitation.

Pure BPA makes no sense.

Dude, no one on knows what the fug will happen. The whole "panthers with do this or that" is silly. Rumors.

Even when we pick something, how will we even know if its BPA? We might have an idea of what a player is worth but we have no idea in hell what Gmans big board is. We could pick WR, and it could very well be a BPA pick.

Just let the chips fall where they may. These "scources" are full of sshit

I'm not as big a critic of Dator as some on here are, but his reasoning here is flawed.  It essentially breaks down to "I wouldn't do that, so I don't believe Gettleman will either".

Bryan Strickland wrote a very good explanation of how the whole 'BPA' philosophy works in his recent bit answering fan questions.

Draft strategy revolves around value

If you want a better understanding of the thinking behind our draft choices, take a few minutes and read.

    • 5 straight completions in the 4th quarter to get into the red zone and then score a stand up rushing TD and celly in one of the best defenses faces to bring the score within 1 possession against the super bowl champs is "stunned" to you?
    • yes, if you read what I said - that was due to his record breaking 245 yard 4th quarter performance in garbage time when the Seahawks were already celebrating. If Bryce puts up big numbers in the 4th quarter, people like you are quick to call it garbage time stats but seem to get selective when other QB's do it because it doesn't fit your narrative.  also, I'm logical enough to admit that Drake is a great QB and his performance had a lot to do with his protection, play calling, and other aspects. The game does not fall completely on the QB. Just like how the Panthers were still in the game vs Seattle until Horn's penalty changed that. It is a team sport, so many factors, players, refs, coaches are involved and it only takes one thing to change the game. the obsession with Bryce is just nauseating at this point and if you pay attention on here, it's the same 10 users quoting and pieing each other. it's super weird and everywhere else you go, opinions on Bryce are trending upwards. the way the season ended, the vibe at the stadium, the performance, should have everyone excited about this next season. Idk, maybe I just look at life and my entertainment outlets differently than others.
    • Are we sure something hasnt happened to him because that seems pretty shitty to simply abandon this place
