We didn't do Cam any favors, and if this is it we're gonna have some problems

Great write up, Top Dawg. The oline scares the crap outta me. I liked the pickup of Turner, but was disappointed we spent a pick on yet another def player when we needed T's.

As for the WRs; I liked the Benjamin pick. Possibly would have went after A Robinson instead of Ealy. We'll see how it goes though. Hoping for the best, and hoping Cam doesn't get killed out there due to our OL

Didn't expect this post from you Top Dawg. Most of the time I enjoy reading your posts, but not this time. We got our #1 be happy.

I am trying.  Just a little disappointed is all. I am sure I will get over it.

BPA is for losinf franchises.

I always point to the Pats/Ravens/Steelers/Eagles and now Niners as teams that know how to get a younger version of the guy they let go or traded.

BP is lazy and short sighted.

Sustained success comes from having a system and knowing tje value of a player as it relates to the draft board.

So those teams I mentioned trade up or down but NEVER reach for a player.

Now Gettleman will make sure he uses Ealy to vindicate himself to his critics.

Stubborn to be honest.

Hopefully they rotate d lineman to stay fresh but we shall see.

Lets see, we signed 2 Veteran solid WR's, a great Potential WR and still have his go-to Olsen, along with a newer speedster in Underwood...yet we haven't done Cam any favors.  Lets wait and see when the season starts to judge how we screwed the pooch with Newton.

I think there is one element in the BPA verses need debate that is being overlooked here. The key factor that is overlooked in this is that a position upgrade is the goal and if you can't get that in FA then your next opportunity is the Draft.

Teams draft boards rate players coming out first and for most. Then they have to be evaluated against the players already on the roster. A line is drawn when they equal out and you don't draft a player that is the same or of lesser value than what you already have. There's no point in drafting a player that's not an upgrade period.

If you don't find an upgrade in the draft then you scan the waver wire for possible upgrades and hope you hit on others teams excess.

Rinse and repeat until you build the team you envision.

Another year.....same reaction. Everyone hated him this time last year and he was right!

Lets see:

KB-RAW! No denying the potential. Ricky is happy then we have a starting WR!

Ealy-compared to John Abraham and Robert Quinn. Craft needs honed, but definitely a starter and fug y'all! I'm big on the rotation.

Turner-may never be a pro bowler, but if you can't see that this guy is a day one starter at guard then ur blind. Very athletic(for a lineman)and high motor

Boston-I will admit, this one was a head scratcher. Read comparisons to Asante Samuels. Then I remembered he played for UNC and there is no other school that can make a good player look average as UNC.

Bene-has upside. Fits our opportunistic D we are trying to build. Obviously DG and Wilks love this guy.....he must fit the system well.

Gaffney-gotten better every year and had 21 TDs in the PAC last year. Baller!

Newsome echoed DG's sentiment. DG didn't want Hurst, so get over it.

When we have more take-aways than anyone else next year because we are rotating in fresh, stud DEs then everyone will clamour over the draft strategy, but in the meantime.....lets see the full plan!

I put more time and effort into this draft than any other ....

How do you know? You don't, and that alone gives me no confidence in your opinion.

You'd be happy with drafting an OT that isn't good enough to start, even down the road. That's all I need to know about your draft synopsis

    • The bottom line is we saw long stretches this season where T-Mac wasn't even targeted.  He had games where he went an entire half without seeing a pass thrown his way, and it lead to a bunch of games with 5 or less targets.  If he's healthy and we're not up a stupid amount and only running the ball, I can't see him having more than a game or two next year with 5 or less targets. We were also only 22nd this year in pass attempts, and that was with a rookie #1 and no legitimate 2nd option for half the season.  And even then, we were only 46 pass attempts above 31st place. If we go into next season with T-Mac improved in his 2nd season and a healthy Coker for 17 games, there is absolutely no reason for us to not throw it more.  That right away increases both of their target totals without sacrificing any targets from each other or other players, add in them taking targets from the TEs and RBs on top of that, and your argument just doesn't hold water anymore. You can't look at targets/yards in a vacuum and think next year Coker just takes some from T-Mac.  You have to look at the team as a whole and our situations this year and then project what will happen next year. If he's healthy for 17 games, I'd bet my life savings that T-Mac sees increases across the board, targets/catches/yards/TDs.   Just as Coker will also see career highs in all categories, it's not one vs the other, it's shifting offensive strategy given our personnel, which next year will be much better for our passing game (QB issues aside).
    • C'mon now.... First, you can't switch up your argument once someone points out a major flaw in your point. You're saying we shouldn't expect a big increase in targets/yards for T-Mac, but then shift to talking about averages with Chase when I point out the significant leap he took there once you factor in his missing games.  He saw an increase in targets in 5 less games, averages aside, he saw a significant increase in targets in his 2nd season, what he then did with those targets is actually irrelevant in this discussion. Puka seeing no increase is pointless, as he saw such an absurd amount of targets for a rookie, it's near impossible to see an increase. But the real issue in this post is that you think I'm proving your point by showing how Waddle had to share targets with Hill. Tyreek Hill was a 1st team All Pro who was 2nd in the NFL in yards that season. If you think Jaylen Waddle sharing targets with a 1st team All Pro and a future HOFer is even remotely in the same category as T-Mac needing to share targets with Coker... then you are certifiably insane, lol. If anything, you could make the argument that Coker is to Waddle as T-Mac is to Hill in that discussion (which would then lead to a serious increase in targets/yards for T-Mac).  But even that is insane, as neither T-Mac or Coker will be as good as Hill and Waddle respectively that season.  I love both of their potential, but c'mon now, T-Mac isn't getting 119 catches for 1,700 yards and Coker isn't getting 117 for 1,350 next season.
