Gettleman on WFNZ this morning

Caught it on the ride in to work...

Spoke about having faith in Chandler and Bell.. Said young guys need time to develop and prove themselves..Has faith that they will.

Spoke about Chandler's work ethic. Worked with Jackie Slater (former nfl RT) the past 2 offseasons and has done everything they have asked of him. Said a Tackle needs 5k reps in practice/games to develop and he's getting close to that.

Does not think the team is taking a step back(he says this every time)..Goal is to win the division, and then get to the promised land.

Made it clear the Steve Smith decision was more of an on the field decline vs being a locker room cancer.

He was specifically asked if his presence in the locker room and his response was...it was purely a football decision and he wishes him luck in B-more.

On his faith in the new receiving core...Said well its a very different group, starting with the big rookie.. Then he mentioned Cotchery as another legitimate redzone threat(alluded to his 10 TD's last year).Said Cotchery and Avant are just very smart football players.

Underwood is a vertical threat, different speed then Ginn. Said Ginn is 0-60 in.05 seconds where Underwood builds up to it and once he does he can blow the top off a defense.

Mentioned the young guns again and the biggest problem they have is making sure everyone gets a fair share of reps so everyone can be properly evaluated.

Said Benjaimin has "A+" hands. Said you need to be patient with him as he is a rookie but his got some unique talents that can help him.

Marqise Lee- was rated side by side with Benjamin on the board, size won.

Forgot to add a few things...... he was asked about why he didn't address offensive tackle in free agency or the draft.

Couldn't afford a Tackle in free agency..no where near enough cap space. Reiterated that no tackle in the draft would have been more ready to go immediately than Bell/Chandler

Was asked about his favorite part of being GM of the panthers.. Said the cliffnotes version is winning. Long story of it is he is a teacher a heart(pronounces heart like "hot")..and loves teaching guys things he's learned.

Totally tunes out media/fans when making decisions. He gathers info from Beane,Gregory,Rivera/Rob Rogers and after digesting that info goes with his gut on the right decisions to make.

Is Cotchery actually a red zone threat? I was always under the impression his 10 TDs last year were a fluke, not the result of any particular skill he has. Can anyone comment on this? I didn't exactly watch many PITTSBURGH STILLERZ games last year so I don't know him that well.

Mac kinda fumbled the interview. I don't know it feels like he misuses his rare opportunities with Panthers front office guys. The only thing I learned was the difference between Ginn and Underwood.

When Mac asked if the Panthers are intentionally taking a step back to build for the future Gettleman answered "absolutely not". Any football fan that follows the team and understands how the NFL works already knew that. Asking if the Panthers are taking a step back intentionally is like those guys that think we are going to a 3-4 defense every time we draft a linebacker. We draft Beason..."3-4!", we draft Connor "3-4!", Luke "3-4!", Klein "3-4!". It's the same people that think we are tanking the offense to lower Cam's 2nd contract.

These interviews are our communication line with Dave and I hate we waste precious questions placating the mouth breathing conspiracy theorists. And of course Mac got in his question about Marqise Lee. Mac brought up "whispers" that Steve was a bad guy in the locker room. Just another throw away question. Dave isn't a rookie anymore.

I see your point?..Stop gossiping, and ask real football questions.

However, I wonder if the Mac Attack, and WFNZ on a whole, feels the Panther fans are Real/Knowledgeable Football fans to begin with (unless it's them)!?

Listening to WFNZ interviews is like being on a deserted island and fapping to nude photos of Rosie O'Donnel that washed ashore in a storm. The only reason you use them to fap is because there is some semblance of tits and ass. You can fap without them sure, but just the site of a nip helps. Mac's interviews = Rosie O'Donnel nip. I'm so hard up for any Panther news that I will listen.

He's a decently tall vet(6'1) that knows how to get open in tight spaces.

How is catching 10 TD passes a fluke? They used him as a possession receiver and he made the catches. Cotchery was never a super speedy receiver, but he broke Tory Holt's records at NC State for career 100 yd. games and receptions. You can bet he'll contribute this season.

    • If it’s all the same to you guys, I’d like to use this thread for Tuesday nights game as well to keep this hate going. I have a feeling Tuesday vs the panthers is going to be violent in that arena.    @LinvilleGorgecan you please add “and Tuesday” to the game thread?  They play the Panthers again Tuesday. Thank you sir!
    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
