Give Me the Low Down on Charlotte, NC

Looking for some helpful advice - my family and I are looking to make the move from Western NY and Charlotte has come up as a potential landing spot. I work in the mortgage industry and Charlotte has several opportunities with companies I am looking at. So I'm hoping the friendly people from the Huddle can give me some insight on the city.

Mainly I'm looking for some of the nicer areas/neighborhoods to look for houses either in the city or surrounding areas. But any information on the city would be great!

If you're raising a family, or plan on it in the near future, Charlotte is a great place to live.

If you're single and want to live in a city with culture, run away from Charlotte as fast as you can.

Spot on.

Charlotte and the surrounding areas are great for raising a family. My biggest issue with the transplants down here now is they get here then bitch about everything and rip on the south. So yah, don't do that.

So I'll just copy and paste from the other thread:

Highest sales taxes in the state, highest property taxes in the state.

Infrastructure is atrocious. Interstate system has been struggling to catch up for 20 years. Traffic is horrible.

Uptown/downtown is rather sterile and generic- nothing to really make you remember, "Charlotte!"

Usual mix of upscale restaurants and art galleries trying to make in-roads.

There's just no real draw to the city. There are so many more smaller cities around that have much better selling points than Charlotte- Greenville SC, Charleston, Asheville...

And to add:

Since moving to the east coast in 1992, I've lived in Greensboro, Asheville and Eastern NC and own a couple properties on the southern NC coast. My wife, who is originally from NYC area and has lived here since 1985, has been offered a couple opportunities in Charlotte over the years and, despite the fact we had PSLs for 17 years and travel to Charlotte many times during the season, there is nothing that is drawing us to live there.

    • I'm salty every time I see someones mid picks become stars while we throw first and second rounders over and over and they all stink outside of Tet (who still has a lot to prove, imo)
    • There is a contingent that is total Bryce but they weathervane with the wind. When the good Bryce wind blows about once or twice a month we hear a lot from them. But they are always pro Bryce, they just don’t pipe up too much when he sucks. I can’t speak for them, as far as what they are looking at.    In a second contingent, the collective mind is made up. He has had had basically three years worth of starts that might include a top tier outing or two, a few second tier outings, offset by about the same number of bottom tier outings which actually may have the edge there.  The rest of his stuff is third tier and that is going to be the bulk of his starts. We want to move on. And we aren’t getting off of that hill until he puts us off of it. He has not.    There is a third contingent that has no conviction and definitely weather vanes. Bryce is good. Bryce isn’t good. Depending on the latest game. They will buy into 7 on 7 success so that should tell you something.
    • Nacua is really fuging good. He might be a better version of Cooper Kupp.
