June 1st cuts

Recommended Posts

not sure why anyone still likes Oher.  He's way past his prime.  From SI:

Fan of PFF rankings or not, he gave up a poo ton of sacks the last two years.  The Titans got jobbed offering him $20M.

Because most casual fans barely know how good their own O-Line is, and since Oher has name recognition due to his movie, people assume he must be great.

The guy just turned 28. He's definitely not past his prime. He's definitely not a $20M contract player, but he's also very likely better than any OT on our roster.

Teams can now designate players as post June 1st cuts prior to June 1st, so the whole June 1st second wave of free agency doesn't really exist anymore. Most of the June 1st cuts have actually already happened.

True, but teams don't cap relief from those cuts until tomorrow (they're POST June 1 cuts), so there could be some more signings as a result. We only get $1 million back from cutting Steve, so I wouldn't include us in that group.

Really?  Let's use Byron Bell as our measuring stick, because he's apparently the worst OT ever in the history of the NFL.  Bell sucks!  Cut Bell!  A sack of potatoes is a better OT than Bell!  Bell is going to get Cam killed!

Oher would obviously be a huge upgrade to Bell, right?  Solidify that Oline and keep Cam safe and snuggly like a warm, fleece blanket.

2013 - Byron Bell

9 sacks allowed, 6 hits, 31 hurries

2013 - Michael Oher

8 sacks allowed, 7 hits, 42 hurries

wait, wut?  Michael Oher is past his prime.  While he was great at one point, now he's right on par with the worst OT in the history of the NFL, and this is an improvement over his 2012 numbers...

Oher was never great. No one is past their prime at 28 unless significant injury or illness is to blame. Oher was just never all that good to begin with. The Titans were insane to give him that contract, but had Bell been a FA as well he would've gotten nowhere near what Oher did. Why? Because he's not as good. If you're going off of stats and stats alone, Eric Decker should've gotten a lot more than he did, but GMs look at a lot more than just stats.

According too Over The Cap, (just FYI) the Dead Money the Panthers are still carry'n is $16,974,241.

Thing I don't get on that list is, if Gross retired, how do the Panthers owe him $1,725,000 still?

Maybe I'm just to tired, or the numbers just haven't been updated yet on the site.
