E3 2014

Got in the Hardline Beta. Looks like it could be good, but the servers were too unstable to really get a feel for it so who knows. Also, psyched for Fifa 15 PC since it's the same engine as PS4 and XB1 PLUS mods. Looking forward to Sony conference. Think they've got a trick or two up their sleeves after a lackluster Xbox showing....

Sony and MS both had good conferences.... Sony's kinda slowed down in the middle with all the TV stuff but they showed some nice exclusives with LBP, Project beast game, let it die and a few others.

MS with Sunset, Spark, halo boxset thing, Horizon 2 and Ori.

The most interesting things that popped up for me are in no particular order:

AC Unity. I loved the French Revolution, and this looks like a real next-gen game. I loved the multi-player as it was presented. If it becomes that, that's so sweet!

2. Halo. I love me some Halo and that looks freaking awesome to have all the Halos in one place.

3. No Man's Sky. Exploring, space combat and alien dinosaurs? I'm in!

4. The Division. Dude, I love the destructible nature of the environments. The idea of the story is pretty awesome as well. There is also the story which looks really strong.

5. Cop games. Interning development from the military style shooters. Should make things interesting.

Good E3 so far. I need to read up more on Sony's 2 hour announcement before I think someone had a better press conference. Though it's funny that Sony is kind of replicating some of the same TV integration that people poopooed MS on last year.

Huge difference. Sony threw some TV and hardware stuff in after 45 minutes of awesome game reveals and demos, and then followed it up with another 30 minutes of game reveals and demos. MS said hey look the Xbox 1 will be the center of your entertainment and it does all this stuff not related to gaming, then showed Ghosts and a Halo 5 logo.

I didn't watched a presentation.  I like to watch the highlights =)

That being said, Sony and MS are both going hard after your living room.  Sony did the smart thing and concentrated on the gaming aspects first, which is what they did with the PS3/Blu Ray drive.  Get them in the homes first, THEN go after the rest of the living room.  Hence why Blu Ray ran away with the HD Disc format wars.  Fundamentally, the difference is that MS went after it harder, and it was a poor move.

I think the thing that I'm really thinking about is the idea of the of the new Rainbow Six game and the Battlefield Hardline.  Not as much about wanton killing as it is about achieving a goal.

Oh, and I forgot Crackdown 3....Looks like we'll be able to really destroy things which looks like it will be devilishly fun!

    • Possible, he is physical and a forchecker but not a needle mover, but i wouldnt mind it, although I think we have enough 4th line grinders right now between Carrier Robinson and Janakowski  down there, i actually really love our 4th line.            We need scoring in the top 6, and a RHD at this point its definitely coming via trade.            Rasmus Andersson I hear may be on the market, it feels like every couple of seasons someone links us to Erik Karlsson.       As far as centers go,  Marco Rossi (even though we have a ton of smurf already)     Jordan Kyrou is an intriguing option if he is available.           At this point i think Rod should just move Jarvis to his natural center position to give us a 1B center...   yes hes also a smurf but he plays way bigger than he is stylistically.

    • The problem with these summary stats and rankings is that they flatten out progression and assume an even performance throughout the year. His first 3 or 4 games of the season don't really tell you anything about his current level of capacity but more about where he started and what his floor was last year. Given his last several games were against playoff teams, that gives you an idea of his current ability coming into the season. But it will serve more as a floor than a ceiling given the upgrade in talent on offense. And a better defense should give us more stops which results in shorter fields and more opportunities. And going into his third year there is no reason to suspect he will regress. His success wasn't  based on being superhuman but being smart and taking what was the defense was giving him. Distributing to the other guys not trying to do it on his own. He was great at the end when pressured and consistently moved the ball. That makes him a great game manager which is what we need. Something that is easier to do and relies on everyone else rather than having to be a top physical specimen or do it on his own. No one can predict the future but to say we haven't improved much is crazy given just having the Browns anchoring the defensive line will shut down the run and make sure QBs won't be stepping up in the pocket.  Assuming Evero got the message to can the prevent defense and bend until you break philosophy.
