I absolutely hate Shula's play calling and system.  

 

However, with the way our team is built, it is actually going to be the most effective way to run our offense next year. 

 

I think that's a cop-out---a way to justify Shula's questionable play calling because people think that they see some writing on the wall in their crystal balls.

 

Regardless whether or not we believe that our offense is talented enough to improve this year, our wide receiving corps is decidedly more sure-handed and we have added a pass-catching TE (granted with suspect hands) and are developing a potential pass-catching stud at TE as well to ostensibly run more two-TE sets.  

 

Even if we don't add an additional play maker at WR, or discover one amidst our youngsters, Shula needs to improve his play calling.  Just the fact that we have more pass-catching options at receiver, should open it up for our run game and passes for RBs.

 

No more passes for Shula (pun intended), he better improve his play calling, especially  on a situation by situation basis, or else.

Shula is a dolt and he is still here for one reason, system consistency for our QB. My concern about Rivera may be a little trivial but now he has seemed to embrace this Riverboat nickname. Now is he going to feel like he has to gamble to live up to his new twitter handle? 4th and 1 giveth, 4th and 1 taketh away. I doubt he morphs into some Yosemite Sam shoot from the hip coach, but he should leave the Riverboat nickname stuff with the 2013 season. Using it as a twitter handle could backfire.

I'd love to see Shula shitcanned though.

I really hate the faith put in Ron Rivera. People think he changed his philosophy or something which frankly isn't true. Someone just showed him some relative value chart of going for it on 4th, or going for TDs deep in opposing territories, etc. These things aren't daring or innovative; they're logical.

And even if he's changed on 3-4 plays a game, he's still letting shula call the most horseshit offense in the NFL for the rest of them.

I hope they implode this year and they bring in Gus Malzahn.

Just curious, but wouldn't being given information and then using that information to change your conservative nature as a head coach be something like changing philosophies? He changed the way he coached last year. That, in itself is a change in philosophy.

There are fans who root for what the team is, and there are those who watch the games with ill will to aspects they think that need adjustments or improving. 

 

So now, the latter fans watch the games rooting for failure, just to say "I told you so" SMH

 

I guess that's where you draw the line between fans and critics.

As long as Shula is our offensive coordinator, we will never win a superbowl. There is a reason he has sucked everywhere he has gone. He never takes risks and he is so predictable. This showed against the 49ers both times last year.

The offense is going to be worse, of that we can be pretty certain.

Malzahn isn't leaving Auburn for an offensive coordinator job.

We have a talent issue around Newton....more so than a playcalling issue.

Shula is vanilla. But ball control works with good D. With the weak cast around Newton you are limited regardless...IMO

There's truth to this I'm a big time Shula hater but even I can admire what he accomplished with what we had at WR and OL last year...this year will be a tell tell year for him

Shula is not only a large problem in the grand scheme of this season, he is THE problem out offense has to overcome.

Rant about stats all you'd like, it's apparent with the eye test what has gone wrong.

Also, I agree with some here, this year is going to be big for Rivera. I fear he may revert back to Fox-esque decision making during the season.

I think a better oline can mask Shula issues, but redzone redzone redzone. My GOD it's a shame that one issue didn't get fixed and it cost us big time in the playoffs. It really was against 3-4 defenses and San Fran happen to be one
