What/Who will you be watching for on Friday night?

Recommended Posts

This Friday, August 8th, our Carolina Panthers take on the Buffalo Bills live from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina at 7:30pm. Football is upon us!

I will be watching our offensive tackles, particularly Bell and Chandler, closer than anyone else. Can they hold up and hold their own against the formidable defensive front in Buffalo?

How much does Cam play? Are there any obvious signs his ankle is bothering him or does he seem like his usual self? Does he ever take off and run?

How often do we run a two-tight end set? Cam benefitted greatly from his his rookie year. Can Dickson and Williams shoulder the load of a second pass-catching tight end?

Does Kelvin live up to the hype he has been generating in training camp? Outside of Cotchery, Avant, and Benjamin, who steps up and takes another step towards earning a roster spot. I'm looking at you Bersin.

Do Star/Short look to have taken the next step as a professional? If those two have improved significantly, this defense should be even better than last years.

Who shines in the secondary? Is Benwikere primed for a solid season for us? Has Melvin White continued to develop? Can we rely on Lester to step-in and contribute? Who impresses the most: Norman, Thomas, Byndom, or Dockery?

Who looks comfortable and has success catching punts and handling kick-off duties?

We won't see the starters for more than a series or two so that rules out alot of the above. But I want to see some of our guys in the secondary make some plays. I'll also be keeping my eye on Ealy.

Talked to a Lions fan today that said not one of our receivers could catch a cold. I pointed to the fact that Kelvin hasn't dropped a pass all during camp.

The bad thing is he said it doesn't matter what happens in the preseason. The Lions went 4 and 0 in the preseason and then went on to win 0 games a couple of seasons ago. 0 games.

My point is that I will be watching all of our receivers.

Personally i hope we play the starters for a quarter outside of Cam and some of the guys that are banged up. Our young guys and new Panthers in general need all the reps they can get. We have positional battles going on all over the board and I'd like to see a few guys grab the bull by the horns and win their spots. I know we have 4 games to figure it out but young starters like Melvin White, maybe AJ Klein, Short/Star, and Lester (assuming Harper won't play) should get more reps than our veteran starters.

Scores don't matter in preseason.....play does. Scores normally have a lot to do with 3rd and 4th string play. How your starters look matters

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
