Tangentially Panthers related - Interesting note on Offensive Lines

Cowboys oline made that offense what it was

I would love to have that Dallas OL, no kid. But it's a different situation than here.

It's a good move for Dallas if they're really trying to "balance" the offense for this year; pounding the ball. However, it's not a good move if they're going to be the same ole Dallas/Romo/Garrett throwing the ball 500 times a game. Anyone could play OL for Dallas if they are aiming for 400 pass yards per game.

Dallas will only be competitive if they slow the offense down a bit and play Defense which they don't have.

The guy nailed it when he said you can't build a great oline in the salary cap era.

As I'm old enough to remember some great olines, it's actually one of the biggest reasons I hate the salery cap. By they time ya get some guys ya been wanting, or by the time some players develop, you're losing someone to free agency or retirrment. The only oline position worth a first round pick is a tackle that is ready to start day one.

I can go on and on about this subject...

I'll stop here.

I remember reading an article someone here posted that O-lines are not always built by draft picks. That most good lines have very few high draft picks.

That said, it comes down to "want to" and "capability". Some times it just happens. A bunch of guys come together and make things happen. Add in our O-line coach, and I am very comfortable.

You all know I think this team has been good for a year and a half now. And I see no reason that the current group cannot keep the status quo going. Somehow, some way, with Cam, this line should get the job done.

To me it comes down to scheme. Last year Denver had a great year. But they fell apart in the SB. So...it show to go ya that any line can get the job done on a weekly basis. It does change in the playoffs, but by then, any line can grow some kind of continuity. Or at least that is my hope.

We lost Gross. So fugging what. We have 5 guys willing to go to war for our O. I can live with that.

And there were people on this board who still claim getts messed up not drafting a tackle.

I think his draft has out us in a better overall position for success than hurst would have brought us.

Cam has his legs and has receivers who have good hands. This offense will end up being around middle of the pack this year and that's all we need to win a lot of games. The defense is to thank for that. Keeping hardy was the right choice

it would've made everyone feel better about OT at the time, but the same people would be complaining that a 4th - 6th rounder isn't starting day one.

You need a line that works well together, not necessarily the most talented line. You saw what our dline did to opposing quarterbacks, acting like good oline play isn't important to success is foolish.

I do believe you can obtain a good oline without overinvesting. You need a guy with a good eye for a players potential in the system and how they play off their teammates.

Follow the Broncos 1998 plan.... stout offensive line with anybody at RB. It won't matter who runs thought gaping holes.

Agreed.

If we are going to play with the big boys in the NFC, and I'm not convinced we are there yet, we will need to protect Cam at some point.

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
