5 Reasons This Is Not 2012

Joe Adams

Antwan Applewhite (starter)

Chris Gamble (starter)

Charles Godfrey (starter)

Haruki Nakamura (starter)

Josh Norman (rookie starter)

Louis Murphy (starter)

James Anderson (starter)

I know that was 2 years ago, but ifs crazy to think what our expectations were with some kf those players (and others on the roster)

Applewhite was a good rotational edge rusher but no starter or shouldn't have been.

Joe Adams, good guy some players seemed to like him but there is a reason he isnt in the leauge now.

Gamble had the physical skills but he didnt want to play any more (shows by retiring the next season)

Godfrey starter last year but out perfomred by a FA SS and a FA FS.

Nakamura....thats all I gotta say.

Louis Murphy a Hixon type WR

Anderson, being a hokie fan im a little biased but for a 3-4th round draft pick we got some decent years with him and hes still in the leauge now.

That play design was horrible. I mean I can't tell if maybe the offensive line thought it was a screen. Maybe Chud dialed up a misdirection speed option hence why Newton faked one way (and it wouldn't surprise me - Chud had so many WTF gimmick plays earlier in the year). Or maybe Williams was supposed to take a handoff and went the other way. It was like everyone was confused.

I really enjoyed this topic. Awesome write up KP! I completely forgot about #3.  There is something to be said about routine and how that translates into preparedness.  I vote that you do a write up like this weekly digging into the past to pull out great nuggets like this.

That was one of the most disappointing, frustrating games to watch just because of how incredibly lethargic they all looked. It was like they were all hungover.

Also, wow so many bench players... We still have some of those types but damn that's not much talent.

i guess people just forgot what our defense did last year.

the only thing that concerns me is the offense and Cam.

oh and star is a freak

i agree about cam and to a an extent the offense (mainly w/o cam), but it is our defense going up against josh mccown and what is apparently going to be play-calling by committee since their OC will be gone and handing the reigns over to that QB coach who has no pro experience.

i think our defense will probably be able to score more than the tampa offense.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
