Dear NFL Rookies - Don't trash talk Luke Kuechly

Luke Kuechly has two personalities. One is the mild mannered guy, always willing to sign an autograph or answer one last question for the media.

The other personality, well, isn't so nice.

Lions rookie tight end and UNC product Eric Ebron found that out the hard way yesterday.

Ebron said something to Luke that fired him up more than I have ever seen in a game. So much so, that I thought Luke may even get baited into a shoving match, but he never let it get that far.

Ebron was a top 10 draft pick in 2014, and with that comes a certain level of respect and swagger. What it does not come with is enough clout to trash talk the best middle linebacker in football. Ebron confused Luke's calm demeanor with passivity, a true rookie mistake.

Luke went on to have another impressive game, including this amazing pass coverage play....

Notice Kuechly made sure Ebron knew who made that play once it was over.

I was anxious to ask Luke about it after the game. What was said? How did he get you so fired up?

"Oh, we were just competing." Luke said "That's what is awesome about football. Its just one of those things. He is a competitor, I am a competitor, that's what we love about football."

Clearly I was too late, the mild mannered Luke was back in charge. Maybe next time.

Never thought I'd say this...I really like how physical Roman Harper is. He brings some nasty and blitzing is his strength.

Our secondary are legit this season. I'd put a bet on right now that no one will hold the Lions to less than 7 points by the end of the season.

Harper and Decoud are a big reason behind the success.

Ebron has the tools to be one of the best TEs in the NFL. I can promise you Ebron was running his mouth yesterday.

Now, with that being said, I am a UNC fan but Ebron has always struck me a bit of a jerky athlete. I don't know the guy at all and for all I know he may donate hours and money to charity, but just from what I saw at UNC....he def seems like he loses focus and has that entitled, everyone thinks I'm a superstar attitude. He is notorious for trolling and baiting NC State losers on twitter and I believe he was the one who was stomping/dancing on NCSU's logo after we beat them last year.Fedora about had a stroke when he saw that. A rookie TE poo talking arguably the best defensive player in the game during a losing effort absolutely shows immaturity.

    • I see what you did there
    • Yeah the only way current set up is fun is if every year a different tiny school builds a super team and makes a run. You just need 1 rich guy to say you know what would be funny, if I drop 30 million and my school has a shot at a national championship.   They won't ever do it but put some sort of tiered salary cap in place and sign them to 4 year deals. You can only transfer up or down tiers no lateral moves because mean ole coach at texas doesn't play me enough so I'm going to Tennessee. So a player at prairie view can transfer to texas and get paid more or a player from UNC can transfer to UNCG because he isn't getting playing time. If a guy is transferring "up" he can get a salary bump if the team has salary cap space. A guy transferring down has to stay at the same salary as he signed his 4 year deal for so the lower tier team would have to have the cap space to sign him. It would stop the money chasing for lateral moves but allow guys who improve massively at lower schools to make more money as juniors and seniors and hopefully keep more guys in one place because the contract is for 4 years.
