12 men on the field twice?

Smith vs Lucas

Recommended Posts

I think its pretty obvious that we've been out of it as a team for the past two games.  That starts with the coaching staff.  And of course, it makes me wonder just how much some external crap affected them.

Think there's anything the FO can do to bring some relief and get their focus back on winning games?

I believe it was a game changer.

After the half, the defense came out with a new attitude and looked like the defense in the first two games. They forced a 3 and out... and bam... special teams penalty, first down.

That completely deflated the defense just as they were getting a head of steam. Momentum lost.

I honestly think special team coach is on a very hot seat.

The Hardy situation seems to be a distraction.  I thought the coaching staff could keep the team together, but thus far, they're doing a not.  What makes this situation unique is that Ron wanted Hardy out there.  This isn't Ron vs Hardy, it's Ron vs the front office.

Hadry isn't the sole reason why we've been blown out the last two games, but it's definitely part of it.  The whole organization seems lost.  However, there is good news.  We're 2-0 in the conference and 1-0 in the divsion.

Then that makes it two weeks in a row where we seemed to be on the cusp of a turning point, only to have the special teams unit let us down.  Who knows how those moments may have changed the games - Philly's phumble and the 12-man penalty yesterday.

I think with the Hardy situation it was JR vs. DG and Rivera. Both DG and Rivera are football guys and don't deal with sh*t like that. JR forced them to take action and Rom ended up taking the fall for it. JR's initial stance was actually good but he caved under the media pressure. Quite a shame.

Either way, it all comes down to Hardy making a dumbass desicion.  It's been beat to death and I'm over it at this point.  This is Ron's team and he has a responibility to get these players in line.  He did it last year so I'm not jumping off the deep end like most others.

Big Frank now has an opportunity like no other.  I hope he's up to it cause this defense needs some help right now.

    • I consider last year Bryce's rookie year.....and I expect some regression/D adjustment in his second season in Canales' O.  Film is film.   So yeah, I agree....he won't be the dude that opened up the year week 1 or closed the door week 17.  We will get some dude in between it all most likely.  Which IMO puts us in a really awkward no man's land with Bryce.
    • The question is which Bryce shows up game 1. Do we get week 2 (2024) Bryce, or week 18 (2024) Bryce?  I will say that his progression after the benching last year was amazing. He literally got better every game - sans Dallas. Like every week he did something we hadn't seen him do before. And it wasn't luck, toss it up for grabs plays like Penix did against Carolina. Penix was just throwing the ball as hard as he could in the direction of a receiver and hoping they'd make a play for him. What we saw from Bryce was different. Decision making, reading defenses, recognizing blitzes and where they were coming from, knowing his hot, avoiding pressure and manipulating the pocket, throwing with anticipation, taking shots downfield, and running the ball surprisingly well. Stats don't always tell the story. Did he miss some throws that he should have made - sure did. But the clutch gene is strong with this one. One score game and Carolina has the ball with 2 minutes on the clock - I'm confident he'll give them a chance to win more than he doesn't.
    • I really like David Moore. He's a reliable WR. Smart, doesn't drop the ball and he's where he's supposed to be. Now, he ain't gonna route up a DB. He ain't gonna 50/50 ball a DB. He ain't gonna run by a DB either. But he runs a good enough route and catches the ball - definitely an NFL average WR. Every team could use a David Moore. Now if this receiving group can force Dan and Dave to let him go, then this team has come a long way since 2023. A LONG way. But I will say that Horn's speed is a big deal. They don't really have another guy with speed and quickness to blow the top off the defense and make guys miss in space after the catch, though he is still a rookie and hasn't done it in the NFL. If he and Renfrow push Moore out, then we might actually have something gents. Plus I see Renfrow as Thielen's replacement in 2026. I just don't think Coker is the reliable, move the chains guy like Thielen. Could be wrong.
