12 men on the field twice?

Smith vs Lucas

Recommended Posts

I believe it was a game changer.

After the half, the defense came out with a new attitude and looked like the defense in the first two games. They forced a 3 and out... and bam... special teams penalty, first down.

That completely deflated the defense just as they were getting a head of steam. Momentum lost.

it certainly changed the will of the team... it seems like we're ready to go be who we should be until a minor ridiculous error occurs. then its downhill... nevertheless all we have done wrong is correctable. If we get more points up on offense we should be better and more confident. makes you wonder how the team truly feels they are without Hardy. its a clear difference..... Hopefully Alexander is ready to ball out and spark that dline.

this happening once in a game at some point during the season is dumb and a bit embarrassing, but acceptable.

this happening twice in a season may show a lack of discipline.

this happening twice in one game shows you've got some major issues that need worked out at the top. it reflects poorly not just on the position coach that caused it to happen, but also on the HC who needs to do a better job of making sure his position coaches have their crap together.

i know that the coaching staff probably got torn a new one after the loss to the steelers and i can't imagine how bad it will be after this one. it wouldn't surprise me to see at least one head roll just as a warning to the others. your job is on the line. don't screw up again. get your players ready for the next game and make sure they are where they need to be and doing what they are supposed to be doing at all times. if they aren't, it's on you.

Richard Rodgers should get a pink slip this morning. We hired DeHaven to baby sit him... might as well go ahead and give Bruce the job.

Then that makes it two weeks in a row where we seemed to be on the cusp of a turning point, only to have the special teams unit let us down.  Who knows how those moments may have changed the games - Philly's phumble and the 12-man penalty yesterday.

Don't forget the Horton offsides on the field-goal attempt which gave the Steelers a 1st down, and they went on to score a TD.

i think/hope we see two coaching changes in the near future.

john ramsdell taking shula's place

bruce dehaven taking richard rogers place

The second change makes sense.  DeHaven has been a Special teams coordinator and has done a fine job.

Ramsdell has never been an OC at any level and never called a game in his life.  You don't replace someone who you don't think is a doing job with someone with no experience doing it at all. He has mostly been more than a wide receivers coach.

    • Why is it a no-brainer? I mean the idea of a hold out made me laugh out loud.
    • Oh, oh. I see what you are saying. Yeah but not all of those were draft for draft replacements. Jones was a dumpster dive. The overall point I was making is that it is becoming more common to see this quick pivots as people realize their mistakes. It happens with a lot of busts historically at QB.  IDK about "most teams" have fast, capable WR's. It's a mixed bag across the league. There are the Hopkins, Evans, etc that aren't sub-4.5 guys and are still star players.
    • So if it comes down to that, and it played out, we could be looking at a post June 1 designation for his 5th year money at best. Assuming it is guaranteed which I don’t know.     13.25 mil cap hit in 2027 and 2028.   I have to admit I never really went into the angles after picking up the option. I have always been don’t do it.    So, you pay him the 12 mil for year 4 and if you want out when they go into extension lobbying you trade or cut.  Is that conceivable?   The thing about trading is, I believe all the guaranteed money hits your cap right then. That’s 26.5 million if correct.  So if they picked up the 5th, this would cover the ‘we want out’ expenses from our end, after year 4.   Correct?
