If elite MLBs are more important then elite DEs why do football people choose to pay DEs more.

Good logic, ill take that.

Watt has 2 years on Luke though and for what its worth, Luke made a quicker impact in the league on his arrival than Watt.

Somewhere there is a point where you take the elite LB over the elite DE I mean, you dont always take the elite DE over the elite LB do you? Doesn't it depend who they are, at all?

Ray Lewis or Julius Peppers? Give me Lewis every time.

Watt puts way more effort into the game than Peppers.

Watt won DPoTY in his 2nd season, with unprecedented numbers. That's pretty quick.

There is a pretty clear reasons why DE get paid more. They are closer the ball, thus have the greater % chance to disrupt the offense than a MLB. The truly great DE(DTs) are rare athletes. These are the guys who have freakish combo of size, speed, power and quickness. Then guys like Watt uses his natural talents with technique(proper use of leverage) to be even more deadly. They can change entire protection schemes which can create favorable match-ups for the rest of the players.

Many teams can get away with an average MLB and be a really good D(Look at the Giants for example) by having either a great pass rusher or great rotation.

Of course no one player can do everything by himself and depends on others, so this question/debate isn't really that great in the grand scheme of things but more about fans being fans.

LBs can't even do their jobs properly if the DLine is getting dominated. It's OKAY to be a homer, but don't pretend you're not biased when you pick Luke over Watt.

Well, in fariness, Watts D was an utter joke last season. Starts up front as you say.

No question you take Luke.

Luke is the QB of the defense. Watt just does what he is told.

Watt did will not consistently garner more than 10 sacks per season. He is on pace for 6-8 sacks this season. He had one strong season. He could not turn around a sorry defense last season, because of the position he plays.

Luke is more of a factor in a defense. Add Luke to the Texans defense last season and they would win more games.

I take the players who is more of a factor and can lead an entire unit.

Would you take Calvin Johnson over Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? Calvin Johnson may be more of an athletic freak and win his one on ones a lot, but he is not as big a factor as Manning or Brady.

If everything were the same on a defense: You take Watt to build the defense around and you lose games. You take Luke to build the defense around and you win games.
