Kawann Short continues to impress

Kawann Short continues to build the case that he is Carolina's best defensive lineman. Against the Bengals, he had 5 tackles and two QB hits.

Short has picked up his game in run support, helping to fill the void that Greg Hardy left. Even though he was credited with oly 5 tackles, his presence forced the runner to redirect frequently. Because of him, guys like Kuechly and Davis were able to clean up nicely.

As far as pass rush goes, Short is more effective than anyone else on the Panthers roster.

Unfortunately, Short is also held very frequently. The following shot was taken during the play of the Bengals final touchdown. A blatant hold, with the offensive lineman's hands clearly outside the numbers and wrapped around Short. If not for this hold, a sack was inevitable. Sadly, it went uncalled.

There is no other player on the defense that should have you more excited in terms of potential.

    • If Henderson just got a concussion and will possibly/probably now miss next week as well, gotta think missing 2 games of stats at this point of the year might knock him out as he was only just entering the discussion the last few weeks anyways.  Same goes for Judkins going down today too, and Dart's god awful game likely removes him from the conversation as well. It will be interesting to see how the voters compare T-Mac and Egbuka if they end up with stats that are nearly identical. Egbuka burst onto the scene and put up the bulk of his stats early in the year when Baker was playing like the MVP front runner.  While T-Mac was just more consistent throughout the course of the full season (ex. Egbuka has 8 games of 42 yards or less, T-Mac has 4 of them, while T-Mac still scored 3 TDs in those 4 games, where Egbuka only scored 1 TD in his 8). It would be a shame if they put too much weight on the final game of the season if that ends up being the division decider, as I think T-Mac has had the better SEASON while Egbuka had a better peak output during that first month or so but way cooled off since. Maybe Warren goes off in the last 3 games (they still play tomorrow), but it does seem to be down to T-Mac and Egbuka right now.
    • Mitchell Evan’s put a block on someone that he drove them all the way out of bounds and to the bench. He absolutely destroyed the guy. He’s gonna be a beast for us if he keeps that up.
    • Yall... stop taking a sample size and projecting a role player into a permanent starter cuz he had a decent year after what, 5? Come on
