Coming into the Bengals game, Antoine Cason and Melvin White were ranked 97th and 79th, respectively, by profootballfocus.com ranking of 102 NFL corners in pass coverage.

Both got negative PFF pass coverage grades vs the Bengals, -3.8 for Cason and -0.3 for White

PFF on Cason vs the Bengals:

Although he had a nice return on a gift interception, this was certainly his worst game of the year. He was picked on early and often by Andy Dalton, allowing nine catches on 12 targets for 92 yards and a touchdown, his fourth straight game allowing a score.

Signature Stat: Quarterbacks have a rating of 113.1 when throwing at Cason in 2014.

in 2012, Cason's last season in San Diego, PFF rated him 108th out of 113 cornerbacks

In the preseason, this was the word on Cason:

Cason, 27, was viewed last offseason as a viable player to man the slot corner role, however, he fell out of favor with the Cardinals, and was relegated to a very limited role last season for Arizona, playing only 169 snaps total and grading out negatively according to ProFootball Focus. Cason is likely a depth signing for the Panthers who will compete for playing time as no more than the No. 3 corner.

some CBs to watch for 2015 Draft:

senior Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon

junior Marcus Peters, Washington

junior Trae Waynes, Mich St

juniors PJ Williams and Ronald Darby, both of Florida State

Yeah Cason is also a great tackler (Second on the team) and has forced three fumbles. And yeah the passer rating may be high but it doesn't show how often they are throwing his way. Cason has been very solid this year

If he's in fact second on the team in tackles that's a horrible thing. A CB with alot of tackles typically means he's getting abused in the passing game. Example: Cason

according to pff, cason has been targeted 45x and allowed 36 receptions.

cason is solid in that he's there to make a tackle after a reception, but he's not a threat to make the qb think twice about throwing to whoever he's covering.

Not completely true. If you watch the games he actually comes up in the run game and makes great tackles a couple times a game and knocks the ball out every once in a while. He is getting most of his tackles because our front 7 is not what they were last year and he is making tackles down field on run plays because our line isnt getting great push. Also anyone in the league can get open with the amount of time the QBs have had to throw against us and you cannot blame that on Cason. Like I said Cason has been very solid and the only reason he is letting up catches at all is because the WRs have all the time in the world to get open.

    • thats fair.   I was beginning to think rookie punter was in the plans
    • Sam Martin   CARPunter#6 Panthers re-signed P Sam Martin to a two-year contract. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Martin’s deal is up to $5 million. Martin joined the Panthers last season on a one-year deal and wound up booting 56 punts for an average of 47.2 yards per punt. Martin is a 13-year vet of the league who has spent time with four different franchises. He landed a career-best 48.2 percent of his kicks inside his opponent’s 20-yard line last season.
    • Surprised CB is that low.  19th is odd spot. For many recent drafts, teams only felt there were around 14 first round players.  So to many 19 is just an early second and doesn't hold the value of a first.  If you go off- the smart path of LT, QB, edge, WR, CB, etc. Whatever your OG, Safety, ILB, etc needs to be a difference maker, that's the key point. I've said the 8th best edge is better than the 1st safety. Same for QB and even WRs. You should 100% factor in position value.  MHS you've been wanting a FS, let me tell you its super difficult to be a difference making FS. You're just sooo farrrr away from the action and the end result most times. If you're in the play, defense made mistakes in order. Now to talk out of both sides, maaaaaann that white boy from Oregon....I thought he crushed the combine and honestly that alone made me rethink "is he worth 19 now?!?!" he's now in the discussion for me, but still below others.    Plus I feel TE is vastly underrated in value terms. But looking at the last 20 years of TEs in the first, its down right bad. You're better like X10 better drafting one in 4th or 5th.
