Ron Rivera: "Greg will be here at the right moment/appropriate time"

yes ANOTHER Hardy thread, who cares...

anyway, apparently he is still on the agenda which makes me further think he has not taken his last snap as a panther. Frank Alexander, who knows... Just reading between the lines, it seems Greg will be back after Nov 17 regardless of the outcome. thus he will be back on our bye week. Looking ahead, I think we run the table for the remaining games after the bye so we must win at least 2 of the next 5 at minimum for that solid Playoff spot. I'm calling it 10-5-1 but I'm not sure if that will be a #2 or 3 seed. Hopefully my assumptions are correct

also I think the saints finish 8-8 and the falcons finish 5-11 giving one loss to tampa. tampa is laughable at this point but will beat the falcons.

People keep looking too much into Rivera's words.

Appropriate time = after his trial is over with and when he is permitted to return.

Nothing more, nothing less.  Hardy isn't coming back until his trial is finished.

Realistically, the way this team is playing....8 wins should be the goal.  Green Bay, Seattle, New Orleans (poo or not, still have Brees).

Hardy?  Not happening.  His case will get pushed back and he wont play for this team again.

Honestly I would love to have Greg back in November. He allegedly committed a misdemeanor and it got blown out of proportion. It feels like the punishment doesn't fit the alleged crime at this point.

The problem is, if we bring him back and we are 1.5 games under .500, the media will accuse us of putting winning over women. So we have to win or the poo storm will double.

Pretty sure it's up to Goodell when he comes back, right?  He chooses who goes on the list, and when they come back, if I'm not mistaken.  I don't think the Panthers' have any say in the whole deal.

Greg is on the list "voluntarily". If he demands his job back and the league declines he can seek legal action. But that's not a good look for him with no long term contract.

Blame the media, who was on a witchhunt after the Ray Rice video went public. Hardy would still be on the field any other year, and rightfully so. Maybe it helps us though. Maybe Kraken comes back in Dec, fresher, hungrier, and angrier than everybody else.

I'd love for Hardy to come back...but...

1. Imagine the media poo storm (right or not)

2. He's currently collecting checks for doing nothing. His value as a FA is already on the decline because of his legal case. So, why come back, maybe play at a sub-par level or get hurt, and risk it even further?

The only way Hardy comes back (IMO) is if the Panthers are in serious playoff contention towards the end of the year, and JR makes the executive decision that bolstering up for a Super Bowl run is worth the media backlash.

    • Why do you say that. What leads you to think that we, as supporters, think his ceiling is 10-12. That's a ridiculous assumption on your part. The Seahawks won the SB with Darnold passing for 25 TD's, 14 Ints with a 99.1 rating for the season.  The Panthers with Young were at 23 TD's, 11 Ints and a 78.8 rating for the season. Not that far off. The problem with all the Young discourse around here is the assumption that the QB is the sole determining factor for a teams success. That just isn't true and it's certainly not how Morgan and Tilis are building the Panthers.
    • Do we pay based on how many wins or how many games Bryce led us to wins? We've spent quite a bit on defense this year and hopefully they're much improved. If the Panthers do get to 10 wins, but Bryce has another year like last year where he showed up big in a couple, was present in a few, and forgettable in most, do we still pay him 50m per year?  I keep bringing it up because I think it's relevant, but Bryce was outplayed by a 6m per year backup last year. I don't see how it's possible to pay a top tier QB contract to someone who's putting up backup QB production.
    • I understand tempering expectations, but there are some issues with his points. Walker was a 3 year starter, but Green Bay let him walk and no other team was quick to snatch him up. That says something. Freeling will compete to start. With Hunter, we rotate our linemen and even 5th round pick Cam Jackson played some meaningful snaps last year. Both Brown III and Wharton have underwhelmed since we picked them up. Hunter is a run plugger that we have needed. Hunter will play early, even if he isn't the "starter." Brazzell was described as one of Canales' favorite prospects in the draft and he has a speed element we have been missing. I think Canales is going to have plays drawn up with Brazzell on the field just out of pure excitement. It will be up to Brazzell to prove he can handle it, though. If he can, he will play. As far as our secondary picks, yeah they have to earn their stripes and Evero tends to lean on veterans. So they might take time, but if they can show they can play, they will see the field. Smith-Wade and Ransom did. Sam Hecht simply has to show he can handle the mental side of the NFL game. If he can, he is in a direct competition with Fortner, who's also relatively young, but also on his 3rd NFL team and doesn't have the power profile of Hecht.  I can appreciate that Gantt wants to pour cold water on what was perceived as an impactful draft, but facts are facts.
