Austin Pettis

I can see DG bringing in a guy like Austin Pettis this offseason.

I said this before he was waived and was going to be a free agent at the end of the season. I could see it, he's been a reliable target for most of his career. Nothing flashy just like the others we have now minus Benji

Pettis was waived by the Rams yesterday...  I would love to put in a waiver claim on him or sign him if he passes through waivers.  I had the chance to watch him quite a bit while at Boise State during their successful run recently and hoped we would be able to snag him in the draft.  He is a great combo of size and athleticism - 6'3" 205 lbs. and really good measurables.  Furthermore, he has experience at both return spots as well.

He was the Rams 2011 third-round draft choice and he contributed in every facet he possibly could on offense and ST, but he was apparently late for a team meeting on Saturday and so Fisher canned him...

Anyone else interested?  With Philly's injury and our lack of speed/athleticism at WR right now, combined with his ability to contribute as a STer, I think this could be a claim/signing that could pay dividends immediately.

Now, discuss, or flame away, but I feel this is a legitimate player worth looking into.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
