Does Cam deserve "the contract" based on this season?

Quit sucking his D man.

This has nothing to do with race.

Like or not the NFL is a business that revolves around production. No player is or should be immune to it.

Here's the truth: Everyone wants to see Cam do well. He's just plays so inconsistently. He's won us some games and he's cost us some games.

We've had 1 winning season in 4 years. A first game home playoff loss in that winning season. He has amazing potential physically, but struggles mentally doing the little things.

He deserves to make good money, but not something horrific some other team will probably be willing to pay him. Combined with the cap going up, dead contracts coming off the books, and saving 20+mill a year on Cam's contract we could really bring some talent onto this team.

I could careless if our qb can make spectacular runs. I'd be happy on efficient non-glamorous drives that put up points, rather then the high risk high reward style of play our offense seems to depend on.

Here's someone that gets it.

Cam is NOT an elite QB. He is a pretty good, streaky game manager at best. You guys think we suck now?! Lol just wait until we overpay Cam a huge contract and wont have any money to fix any of our problems.

Ive said it once, ill say it again. Just let Cam walk. Its a win/win for both sides, he will go to a team that will know how to build around him and we wont have to tie up so much money. Im calling it right now. Manning will retire after winning a SB and Broncos will sign Cam. Cam with that O line and WRs would be beastly. He could just like slide right into the starting spot and not skip a beat because of the talent and O line. Cam will be a Bronco next season.

And then what do we do at Quarterback?

Option 1: play DA, who as soon as other teams start game planning for him, will show us exactly why he's a backup.

Option 2: sign a free agent. If you're a quarterback and you're a free agent then it's probably because you are average. The only free agent QB to win a Super Bowl in the last ten years is I think is Drew Brees, though a couple more got close, such as our own Jake Delhomme. The point is there's usually a reason you're on the market.

Option 3: draft a QB of the future. I think the recent success of young QB's in the league have tainted the reality of how hard it is to hit on a quarterback. It's not like if you just let Cam go we'll draft the next big thing the following year. For one in order to be in a position to draft this hypothetical QB we will have to suck and get a top five pick. That or trade up, which will deplete our roster in others places, which is what you were trying to avoid by letting Cam walk.

Ask Tennessee, Oakland, Cleveland and dozens of other teams how hard it is to find a franchise QB, we have one, we have to hold on to him.

We should keep an eye on Baltimore going forward. Joe Flacco is a good QB making elite QB money, let's see how Ozzie maneuvers and works their salary cap with that in mind. Last year they took a step back but that could also be blamed on a Super Bowl hangover that teams tend to have. This year they seem to have worked it out, with a little help from us via Smitty.

Cam is NOT a franchise QB. Hes a streaky game manager at beat. Sorry, we can be 3-4-1 for a lot less than the 100 million Cam will demand. Cam is the definitin of inconsistent, he reverted back to his pouty, immature 2011 self today. He has reached his ceiling and full potential, he is as good as hes going to be. Let him walk and draft a QB in the 2nd round or sign one on the cheap, im so over Cam

Valid opinions.  I think the best thing to do is too wait before we resign Cam.  We'll pick up his option next year and give him one more year to prove himself. If halfway through the year next season he's show improvement then we can talk extension.

It's his 4th year in the league.  It bugs me he still makes the small mental errors.  By the time a guy is halfway through his 4th year a lot of things should be cleaned up compared to his rookie year.  He still has a lot of the same issues.

Cam is not an elite QB...yet, but he is absolutely a franchise QB. We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

And I also don't think he's reached his potential either. Potential and performance are linked to who you have coaching you. We don't have the best offensive minds.

What you said about Cam the chargers could have easily said about Rivers until the hired McCoy, or what the 49ers said about Alex Smith before they hired Jim harbargh or however his name is spelled.

JR will NEVER hire an offensive mind, just let Cam walk, he will never be good here

Once again I'm not saying that Jake is a better qb then Cam.  Jake wasn't worth that contract he got either.

You're proving my point.  Jake had weapons and a dominant run game.  Once we signed Jake to that horrendous deal we were handcuffed.  We couldn't supply the weapons anymore.

We need a better Oline.  We need a legit LT.  We need a starter at RE.  We need an upgraded secondary.  We need a legit number 2 wr and a speed guy.  We have a lot of needs.

Teams have shown that you can win in this league without betting the house on a qb.

Baltimore has done it.  TB did it when they won the SB.  Arizona is playing lights out this year.

The reason Seattle won the SB last year is because they had talent all over the field last year.  Not because of Wilson.

I get what your saying.

Or we end up like the Bengals with all the talent in the world and nothing to show for it because of the QB. I hate some of the little mental mistakes Cam makes, but I think alot of it has to do with him trying to do to much cause of the pieces around him. It's amazing how much better he is when it's up tempo, and he is controlling the game, and the ball comes out quick.

Shula is a hot mess as an offensive coordinator and Rivera is the guy who just admitted he didnt have any idea why greg olsen didnt get more targets. This is the head coach... he doesn't know why the best offensive player isnt getting more looks? Really? and  we wonder why cam struggles. I don't think this coaching staff has any clue how to run an offense and I dont think we will ever be good on offense unless we have great players to make head coach and coordinator look better than what they are, cause they will sure as hell never make that players look better than what they are lol.

Rivera is looking alot like Rex Ryan to me right now.
