Here come the Saints

After watching GB demolish our very being, the Saints are currently having no problem smacking the Packers.  Home, dome,  schmome.  We will be in for a dogfight come Thursday.

If you thought the Huddle was bad today...I can only imagine what lies ahead if we lose Thursday.

So many missed opportunities today.  Such a frustrating day from a coaching standpoint.

This may be the year of missed opportunities, the exact opposite of the year everything fell our way (2013).

Thursday is the fork in the road IMO.  It ain't over, till it's over.  I still believe we can win the South.

As strange as it may seem, we are going to actually have to win this division rather than backing into a gimme.  There are 8 games left.  May the best team in the South win.

Saints will lose at home to either 49ers or Ravens, maybe both.  They will probably lose on the road to Pittsburgh and if they lose to us that puts them at 8-8 or 9-7.  I'm thinking they end up 9-7 which means we have to go 6-2 down the stretch to win the division.  Thursday is a must win.  After that we will lose to the Eagles and probably to the Saints on the road.  The rest of the games are going to have to be wins or we are at home come January.

The Panthers will play their best game of the season on Thursday, which is why they deserve to lose. If you can't get up for every game like it's against a Division rival, then you don't deserve to ever win any games.

Why is it that my teams are always more focused on "who it is" they're playing instead of only caring about what they need to do no matter who it is? They were scared to death of "Aaron Rodgers." They were in awe of the "defending Super Bowl Champions," and played themselves into a loss. A bunch of nice guy chumps.

UNC...a bunch of nice freaking guys all the time which is why you can always come back on them after they start taking it easy on you, unlike Duke.

Panthers...nice guys, unlike winning franchises.

Nice guys finish last in sports. Cry about that, Jerry.

I agree that Thursday is a huge step in deciding the winner of the South. If Atlanta had won today, we would've been in all sorts of a fuged up situation.

But, also, I think Thursday decides if Rivera and Co. are employed at the end of the year. If we get blown out in the first quarter/half like we did against Green Bay (another team with an explosive offense), then, I don't see any possible way that Rivera and his band of flunkies are here at the end of the season.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
