Regarding the Monday night game, Cam basically said that the two most important things the team is trying to do is "compete" and "have fun."     What about freaking winning?    Is this just presser fodder or has Cam lowered his expectation to trying to compete and just have fun?    You are professionals.  You aren't paid to compete or have fun... you are paid to win games for your team and your fans.

This combined with the other comments over the past two weeks from Cam and others, I think they are done and have no hope of winning this division.  They have lost faith in the system and the coaches and have settled into a "huddle" mentality of ... "when's the draft?"

Sucks... but, isn't this usually when we win an unexpected game?   Who knows what Monday will bring but at least Cam will have fun.

For anyone that has ever played the game in order to win you HAVE TO HAVE FUN. as a former coach and player thats what I always told my players. Go out and have fun.

Pied this cause it makes a lot of sense.  I dont have an extensive background in football but it is only reasonable that you need to actually get some enjoyment and fulfillment out of what you do for a living.

I think some people get so wrapped up in how much players make that they dont realize that these guys are human.  Yes they make a lot of money and they should compete at a high level but in order to do that you need to be able to enjoy what you are doing.

This. Often times before big games one of the things on the chalkboard from our coach was "Have fun"

They know it is a big game, but you don't want to be tense or press. Just go out there, play hard, and have some fun

Okay... let me clarify a little.  He said the number one thing was having fun!   Im not ragging on Cam wanting to have fun... I know you have to enjoy what you are doing... but when fun is the number one thing then aren't we sending another message.

sounds like im wrong here... but watching the panthers over the past few weeks has not been fun

Basically.  Did you know that all he did during his time off, was play Madden!  WTF!  I mean, he should have been in that film room 20 hrs a day, and on the field throwing through tires and into barrels the other 4.  I'm worried bruh...

Winning is fun, Cam wants to win. End of story. I think you're reading too much into it.

Fun is #1 when it comes to sports.  You start when you're a kid, because it's fun.  You keep playing because it's fun.  If you're good enough to get into the NFL, you get to continue to have fun playing a game that you love.  Play is supposed to be fun.  Games are supposed to be fun.  They're playing the game of football, not working the craft of field geometry.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
