Sideline Passes/Lack of Check down

Something I've always noticed with Shula is that he calls for a lot of out patterns towards the sidelines. His favorites being the 15 and 20 yard outs....when we only need 6-7 yards for a first down.

This type of pass leaves Cam very little margin for error. It takes almost a perfect pass to complete and gives the receiver no room to make any type of YAC. The windows are so small to fit the ball into. And most of the time it sails on Cam.

I feel like Cam's best passes come when we attack the seams. There's a lot more space and bigger windows to work with.

Another thing that drives me nuts is we never have plays with a built in check down to a RB. There's no safety valve to bail the offense out in case the vertical routes are covered. This is basic stuff that Shula/Rivera can't figure out.

Serious coaching staff decisions need to be made at seasons end

as far as the preference towards out routes, remember what his offensive philosophy is. The Panthers need to run the ball, and only pass when it's been set up by the run. Passes are dangerous. Throws to the sideline minimize danger. Throws over the middle tend to be easier to intercept.

that's the way the man thinks. Like he's his dad. In the 1970s.

Don evolved his offense a poo ton once he got Marino though.

He needs to smack Mike's poo at the Thanksgiving table.

The thing is his philosophy sucks.
