Jason Avant Cut

Godfrey huge liability....they went out there way for to let attempt to make the team as a nickel CB. Opponents had near 100% completion on him.

Avant. Vet brought in to act like a vet....and play a smal role. Nothing changed, was what he was. Displays better late game comprehension than HC.....suddenly is canned.

Seem very different

talking out against the organization isn't acting like a vet it's acting like an idiot. There's one thing that changed.

Godfrey: bad at his job - gets cut - Huddle rejoices

Avant: bad at his job - makes comments about RR we all agree with - gets cut - Huddle explodes

How was Avant bad at his job when he wasn't being used even CLOSE to correctly?  Was he a speed demon when we signed him and all of a sudden he's slow?  No, he's the same speed.  He's a possession receiver not a long route guy.  Our coaches were the morons using him incorrectly.

I personally would have picked Cotchery. But if they wanted one of their young players to have a chance, it should have been weeks ago when things just weren't working.

Sorry, what I'm saying is keep Bersin + one of those guys.  It made no sense to get two guys, who were virtually identical anyway.  Both shouldn't have made it out of training camp.  Pick the one you like better, part ways with the other, and continue looking for the speed factor we needed so badly.  It's stupid to settle for 4 slow ass guys and one potential speedster that they've failed to use properly anyway.  As Mr Scott so oft points out, this is a coaching issue, and them not being able to appropriately evaluate talent.

It wasn't Gettleman's clock management that he criticized.

Gettleman has shown a penchant for retaliating against guys that speak out in his tenure here so far...

Him being the trigger man behind the release of a guy he touted as a big veteran piece in revamping our WR corps (which is still LOL) when he signed him states to me that it was "Gettleman's clock management," if he is that strong in his support of his staff to do this.

I don't disagree with that. But that doesn't change that he wasn't getting open in the situations he was put in. So let the young guys try.

No offense, but I've seen worse prospects on the outside.

5'11 180

5'9 195 (and that's Smith now after putting on weight.)

Philly has never looked 180 to me, and even if he is, I don't think his frame is capable of putting much more weight on.

I'm not downing him though, I have said a million times, and you likely can go back and search it...  I said I wanted us to get Philly since right before or during the combine.  I'm a Philly fan, but I don't want the culture of incumbency to lead to us ignoring the position again, when ideally, we need to give Cam all the weapons we can afford.

Do you think the coaches moving Godfrey from S to N was using him correctly? I don't. Regardless, Godfrey was bad at his job of being a N.

I mean I get that this can be more attributed to getting the young guys in more the second half of the season...especiallly considering Avant was on a friendly one-year deal; but given the circumstances, player and timing, they could've found a path that didn't make them lookso bad. Perception>reality scenario.

i don't think they can control what the idiotic masses think.

Nothing idiotic about what Avant said nor the manner he said it. He gets football.

It just looks bad bc our coach displayed horrible late situational comprehension.....and people under him "get it" better than the HC.

Idiotic is our FO the past half decade. Not Avant. You can easily state over the last 6 years....no front office has been a bigger joke than ours

Who besides Avant has actually come out and criticized the team and then been released?

And before you say Smitty, he's not an example.  He was repeatedly asked to change how he behaved in the locker room and on the field and was cut when he refused.  He and Jason Avant are polar opposites.

Separate the fact that we agree with Avant's comments and a player trashing his coach. Just because Avant was right doesn't mean it's ok.

There was no way to use Godfrey correctly.  He legitimately sucked.

With Avant, you had possibilities.  But instead, they tried to turn him into something he wasn't.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
