I like how everyone with zero responsibility and accountability to the situation acts like they would resign him if they were in Gettleman's shoes. Mainly because they either haven't thought it through or aren't capable.

Let's say they sign Greg Hardy to big money and a month later he gets a dui or worse, which is more than possible at this point given his inability to surround himself with the right people or make the right choices, what then?

Oh, that's right, everyone here would blast gettleman for resigning him when there were huge red flags that should have been seen.

It's easy to make choices when it's not your job or checkbook on the line. I don't blame the Panthers one bit for not believing Greg's issues are behind him. They clearly aren't.

Since this seems to be directed at yours truly, I'll bite.

I fully realize all the horrible things that can come with a Greg Hardy signing. I realize there are a lot of flags and the guy has problems. I realize there is less than a 1% chance he's brought back to this team. I still like the guy and think he's immensely talented.

I am fully aware of why the team doesn't want him back from a PR standpoint. I also know that I wouldn't refer Greg Hardy into a position with my company because I don't know if I'd want to be associated with him in a professional environment, so I understand why a GM wouldn't touch him. I know he burned the team for $13MM this season. So again, trust me when I say I fully understand the teams stance if they decide not to retain him and I don't blame them or have ill will toward them. I also wouldn't blame Gettleman if he was resigned and something went bad.

That being said, I am a fan and that's why I can take a stance without an investment financially in the outcome if it goes sideways. Fans are allowed to have emotional biases that don't make sense.

It's like firing RR before Black Monday would be stupid, but fans want it. It's like how fans think it's Shula's fault that Cam throws a 40 yard bomb on 3rd and 2. Or how everyone on this board wants to pickup former first round picks because they vaguely recognize there name (i.e. Matt Kalil, Blue Cheese Purifoy, Cordarrelle Patterson). These things don't make sense but when it's not your money you view things differently.

Greg Hardy is my vice when it comes to the Panthers.

The only way I would sign him to an extension would be an on-field incentive based contract with little guaranteed money, and with clauses allowing us to get rid of his ass if he has off the field problems.

What about Josh Brent? Damn, he KILLED a guy and he is still with the Cowboys. I am not saying Hardy is the epitome of sanity, but the standards are so different across the 32 and especially with the Commish. It's just frustrating.

 

People have different views on this, but I think to say he "killed" his teammate is unfair. The teammate, who's name I forget, willingly rode in the car with Brent knowing he had been drinking and also didn't wear his seatbelt. Both of them showed a lack of judgement, just because it happened to be Brent at the wheel doesn't mean he killed the teammate. Regardless, I do agree with you.

C'mon Jeremy, he was a huge part of our success last year and a lot of us remember the iconic images of Greg being part of what made us relevant last year. To say he's been hung out by the league (with the media playing a huge part) this year isn't an understatement. 

 

Don't see why your calling out Hardy's twitter activity as such a big deal when Trai Turner and some of the other players are equally weird on twitter.
