Why does NFL media hate Cam Newton? (Bear fans take on Cam.)

Get ready to squeal this Sunday, when against all odds, Luck leads a very, very mediocre Colts team to the Super Bowl...

I can't wait to hear the avalanche of excuses...

How would you know you are rarely on this site?

Don't you see the fact that you wanting to measure Luck in a bubble kills your argument? Let's do everything to Luck that happened to Cam and then compare their numbers. It's insanity to compare them this year.

Just remove as many games from Luck that Cam missed. That alone would change Lucks numbers. Then add all the issues with the panthers to the colts and boom your argument falls apart.

Comparing Cam to Luck doesn't make much sense to me. These QB's aren't asked to do the same thing in their offensive systems. Luck is on a passing team with a high power offense and a suspect defense. Cam is on a ball control, run first offense with a strong defense. These systems are not very comparable but everyone seems to want to hash it out....even though it's pretty pointless.

I normally agree with most of your posts but Cam gets trashed on the Huddle all the time. Maybe it's a small minority but they sure make a ton of noise after every game, win or lose and it gets frustrating. I expect to hear the crap on our opponents boards but it would be nice to enjoy a win without a Panther Fans derping on a couple overthrown passes.

As for the drama queen comment, I'd say that applies to your post as much as it does everyone else's. Maybe you are not as frustrated by the Cam detractors, but who elected you the sole judge of how other fans may feel? Seems like you're either seeking attention or simply want to make yourself feel superior. I hope you got what you're looking for. Sheesh.

sheesh.

until we start winning on a regular basis, cam will get more blame than he deserves...esp. from narrow-minded sources. i accepted that quite a while ago. this is true with any QB. they get more credit for wins than they deserve and more blame for losses than they deserve.

cam is a dynamic personality, though, which means responses to him will be exaggerated.

we saw last year while we were winning the cam haters disappear. they only show up when things aren't going well (which was the case for this season despite winning the nfcs and a playoff game).

winning cures everything. when we start winning and cam does better, those people will either change their minds or crawl back under their rock.

people don't like it when their team loses and they look for the one simple reason their team is losing and lazily they look at the easiest to blame source, the QB. that's no different here.

the constant bitching about cam from the usual sources is annoying, but, again, it's just a few people doing it and i'm just not going to get worked up over those few no matter how noisy they are because 1) they are who they are and not worth the energy or listening to and 2) they don't speak for or reporesent me or the vast majority of fans. until we start winning, tho, we will hear them whine and bitch about him.

but, i believe in this team and i believe in cam and know that once we start winning regularly and cam gets more consistent with his young group of WRs and surprisingly solid OL, those clowns will shut up or continue to look as foolish as they always have.

So now you want to judge a qb on his rookie year and not the most current one? Are you serious? What relevance does his rookie year have to how good he is right now? The mental gymnastics you'll go through to make Cam look good and Luck bad are amazing.

Dude seriously what's your problem with Cam? Please tell me what Qb is a better option? Don't even say Anderson. Get out of here with that. There is a reason he is not starting in the NFL. If he was so good he would definitely be starting somewhere. Who are we going to get in the draft that is better? What free agent Qb should we sign that's better. This is really intended for all of you Cam Newton critics. Your energy would be better spent cheering on our franchise Qb because if he is not the one as some of you say, we are screwed. We are the Bills.

You realize you can slurp off your neck bearded hero on the Colts board right?

Cam and Luck are each asked to do different things within their offense. The Colts are a passing team, the Panthers are a run first team so how can you really compare them?

The bottom line is pretty undeniable......Cam has done more with less than any other QB in the league this season. When you look at the lack of talent on the online, WR corps, and injuries at RB position a good portion of the year...What other QB had less talent than us? Any other playoff team even come close? Considering the ankle surgery, fractured ribs, and fractured vertibrae from the car wreck....a reasonable person would see this season as very successful.

Wow this is pretty sad. The blind homerism in this thread is overwhleming. Can no one debate intellligently about the merits of Cam Newton without pursuing ad hominen attacks and a complete verbal thrashing?

This is a discussion board, and whether or not one has a minority opinion does not give anyone the right to completely ridicule and trash his/her argument.

The excuses have been given a million times, and some of the blind homerism in this thread is disturbing. Cam's not perfect, far from, and some of you act as if he were a flawless QB. He isn't. I back him, however, I recognize his flaws. Honestly, people have a "right" to be restless. Next year will be his fifth, and he has only shown marginal improvement over the last few years (last year mostly). After this year, we should have a more clear answer to that question, and hopefully without dilution from lack of players, coaches, etc.

    • I'm going to be real, the reason that vote ended up so lop-sided by the end was directly due to my programming. So there's nothing tongue in cheek about it. Also I left PFF after the Collinsworth acquisition (didn't want to move to Cincy) but have stayed involved in analytics via backdoor channels, but I can absolutely say that the experience was eye-opening, not because those guys are unquestionable football savants and that I became one by proxy, but because the amount of information that becomes available outside of what the typical fan has access to is revelatory and also really drives home how much context is still being missed even with all of that information. You don't discover that you know everything, you discover how much you still can't know no matter how hard you try, hence my point about the NFL not being able to figure out what makes a QB good. There's a lot of AI work going into that now and even that only seems to further confuse things vs. actually enlighten the problem. In the professional realm teams don't really talk about quarterbacks as A strictly being better than B, but how A can potentially perform better than B given a specific context of C. Of course those contexts may be wider for A than B, but there's also contexts where B can outshine A, even with lesser talent surrounding them. So what good teams strive to do is ultimately define a process of how they want their entire team to operate under schematically, find players that fit that scheme, and hopefully find a guy whose skillset will be maximized running that scheme with those players. Where bad teams fall of the wagon is constantly shifting those schemes and chasing bad fits or fads vs. sticking with a core identity and developing it.
    • there is a 100 mile long list of NFL players and coaches going to bat and defending horrible play from teammates.
