Was The Carroll/Organization Beef With Lynch Behind That Historically Bad Playcall?

I have to wonder... There were issues bubbling between the organization, and specifically Carroll, since training camp. Add to that the fact that Lynch repeatedly brought more unwanted attention for the Hawks as the year went on with his interviews and gestures.

I like Lynch myself, but I just think this was a constant battle of one-upmanship between he and the organization. Now, coming full circle tonight... Once Lynch didn't get in on the first down and Carroll had time to think about it, I think he weighed out whom he would rather get the shine in this win... Because no doubt, as confident as Carroll is, I think he was sure that they would win regardless of the playcall. Did he want to go the rest of the offseason with everyone talking about how Lynch won them the Superbowl and they cut him? Or would he rather everyone admonish Wilson with love as the franchise qb who won them their second Superbowl in row?

Otherwise, I just can't understand why or how you make any call but giving it to Lynch there.

Idk... I just saw the Lynch Extension thread now.

Thats news to me because from the regular league news guys throughout the season, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that they were cutting him after the season.

Regardless of whether that was the case, I still think the constant back and forth throughout the year (the interviews, hold muh dicks, Wilson's race debate, Harvin trade reaction, etc.) could have had an influence on that call.

maybe they just got too cute, thinking they'd catch the Pats selling out on the run. No, that can't be it. I'm sure Carroll was thinking about Lynch's future contract when he was :30 away from winning his second Superbowl.

I'm not saying he was thinking about his contract. I'm not even saying it was a conscious decision. When you have an ongoing who battle with someone you work with, do your personal opinions of that person affect your decisions involving them or not? They absolutely do.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
