Rivera reassigns special teams coach Rodgers, promotes DeHaven

Shula makes himself a easy target if Ron let's this offense keep deteriorating then he will be the next easy target.. Belicheat and Carroll are both great defensive strategist that both figured out that they need good offensive minds to counter balance their teams..

Offense isn't deteriorating bc of coaching. It is ball control. A ball control O with weak talent. What our FO did to our O was a joke.....yet the Shula fixation grows.

I get disagreeing with ball control. It isn't my preference. It does work. It has worked here even when in reality it shouldn't....bc our talent is even up to par for it to have good odds of success

someone tell me why this is good, I mean, its the same people. If you slice up a turd, rearrange the pieces and put it back together, its still a turd, right?

Its the same people but different coach different outlook different view of how its supposed to be done. Assistant coaches go with the flow and dont question the ones above them because its not their place this is a good move.

I'd discussed with someone the idea of moving Rodgers to some other spot like that (forget who).

again I imagine most are more into the ritual sacrifice of the average scapegoat instead of moving his office down the way.

Which I don't get what he'll coach on D unless Fuller is dropped (and, no reason, I mean Fuller is not the next Jimmy Johnson but I like him) because they're full up on assistants and they wouldn't dare drop Mills.

I agree with the FO part as well but Shula has made mind boggling in game decisions....plus his track record isn't good at all as a OC.. and like I said other DC's turn HC have figured out you need a offense. . Not just a time suck offense. . Hopefully Ron gets the epiphany. .

Oh noes!!!!!! DeHaven was ST coach when Christie kicked it wide right in Super Bowl XXV. :startle: The entire city of Buffalo was like :cold:

Now, I may forgive him if he can convince Steve Tasker to come to Carolina as assistant ST coach .....................

Side Note: Former Panthers special teams coach Scott O'Brien, who's been coaching the Patriots special teams for a while, is retiring.

(maybe somebody could put in a good word for Rodgers)

lmfao! Scotty O'Brien's idea of retiring is laughable. He "retired" from the Panthers, then coached for Miami, then "retired", then coached for NE. There's no quit in the guy. He'll be back.

My memory's solid these days

I read Fuller's bio to see if there was anywhere he could be reassigned.  Turns out he was a special teams assistant at some point, so I guess they could do a straight switcheroo.

I'm honestly not a big fan of that either though.

The site no longer lists Mills as the Defensive QC, only the DL Assistant.  Didn't realize, but there's no Offensive QC either.

Did the team drop the whole QC model, perhaps?

Dehaven is actually known for really good special teams. The history is in the link.

From the link...

  • 2013-14: Carolina Panthers special teams assistant
  • 2010-12: Buffalo Bills special teams coach; unit set franchise records in punt return average and kickoff return average in 2012; unit led NFL in kickoff coverage in 2011.
  • 2007-09: Seattle Seahawks special teams coach; unit was second in the NFL in kickoff return average in 2008.

Why is this good news? Are you stupid, did you not read the article? We're the worst special teams in the league....we had two blocked punts in the same fuging game...we have a dude jump over our ST line...twice and would have made a play if not for a flag...we have opposing teams literally calling us out and preparing for us by using our ST film replays, in which they're successful....

We have no where to go but up lol....this is good news for sure. We literally can't be any worse so how is this NOT good news??

    • Morgan, Mills, Keuchley, Beason--all within the first 25 years of the team's existence--we have been spoiled by great MLB play.
    • Some people just want to get the attention of a celebrity and feel zero empathy for that player's feelings or personal space.  My dad was lifelong friends with some big names in football (Roman Gabriel, Dan Reeves) and baseball (Pete Rose and Tommy Helms of the Reds) and I learned very young that they are people doing a job and really want to be treated like everyone else.  So when I see a celebrity in public who is flying under the radar, I try not to bring attention to myself or them--I might wave if we make eye contact but that is about it.  Flashback In Washington DC (Georgetown) I was eating at a restaurant with my then fiance (she dumped me later--still hurts) and at the end of the dinner, I whispered to her, "Do not look back until we are getting up to leave, but do you know who has been sitting behind you for about 15 minutes?"  She said, "No.  Who?"  I stood to leave, so she turned around while picking up her purse, saw him, and turned back around to look at me with a shocked facial expression.  It was Billy Crystal.  I put my finger over my lips to keep her quiet, but she turned toward him and said, "You look Marvelous!! (one of his famous lines) and proceeded to tell him that her favorite movie is The Princess Bride, a film Crystal had a small part in as Miracle Max.  Grabbing her upper arms from behind, I looked at Crystal sympathetically and he cracked a faint grin--and I gently pulled her toward the exit.  She was mad at me for not telling her sooner and said that I embarrassed her by pulling her away.  I told her "You had already embarrassed yourself.  I was just doing some damage control."  I knew that she had exposed him, and how much he was valuing his anonymity until she sounded the trumpets.
    • I remember that game, vividly. I dare argue 2003 was the most talent stacked team our franchise has ever seen. HOF level talent: Dan, Peppers, Jenkins, Steve. Undeniable. Think about it. He had the chance to be the MVP of the Cinderella team that took down the goat in his prime.   I don’t want to derail the original topic, but some fans just are too young to appreciate the caliber player Dan was.  I hope some of the younger fans have watched some his game tape.  If there is anyone who can spot a baller from a mile away, it’s Dan.  There’s no questioning what this franchise means to him
