Percy Harvin expected to be let go by the Jets

Everyone keeps talking like the Seahawks are going to lose so much because they are "cap strapped" when in reality they have a lot more money to burn than 75% of the other teams in the league.

They might run into cap problems one day but whatever they are doing is working because they have the money to retain the players they want and also be active in free agency this year.

That is what I mean--they have the cap room now, but Lynch and Wilson's deal will have to be rather back loaded, as are the other extensions they have issued. Remember when Hurney went on his spending spree?  We had about $78m in cap room and everyone said we could afford it.  Now we have been trying to overcome that for the past 3 years. They are basically doing their free agent shopping in-house. That is tricky because contracts can become rewards for past performance.  But this is no long-term plan.  I compare it to Hurney because the players' salaries have created inflation amidst the players and they were rewards--almost bribes to get them to stay here.  Kam Chancellor's deal is modest compared to Sherman's, and Kam is their best player.  Lynch has been taking a beating for years--feature back in a ground and pound running game, and they offered him a mega deal when I see him hitting a wall like Steven Jackson did.

I feel as though we are using a formula to assure long-term success--to build a NE, Pittsburgh, etc.  I see Seattle as going "all in", let's win now.  They have the cap room because they have been playing mid to low rounders on first contracts--like us.  In a year or two, Seattle will have to watch other players walk because they will be in a bind. They will realize that Wilson is smart but not elite.  Lynch will be in Hospice, but still owed a ton.  That will be the end of whatever they are building in Seattle.

I'd be interested. Very high risk tho. Locker room concerns, health concerns, concerns over injury history, concerns over actual production as a WR is quite a list for a guy still looking to get paid. He'll probably want at least what Cobb gets and he has never been as productive as a WO

Punt returner. Bring him in this locker room with Thomas Davis and Ron Rivera and I doubt he would be able to BS his way around much. Our established leaders seem to be able to provide stability in rough times and I feel like Harvin wouldn't be immune to that positive influence.

    • fans view “box safety” with the same disdain they have when they hear “game manager” QB.   but there’s a reason most 1st round safeties are “box safeties”-it’s a much longer list of requisite skills to be a good box safety than it is to be a guy whose only real responsibility is to not get beat over the top. Fans crave the ed reed type and as someone who has never been able to enjoy this franchise having a guy like that, I get the enthusiasm-but I’m not really prepared to spend a first round pick on a free safety. If it happens it’ll be fun, it’ll address a need with a good player and that’s well and good. But those guys end up walking after their first contract because their pedigree usually outpaces what their teams feel like they’re adding to their overall win total.
    • Its criminal that the upcoming season is mainly in the tiny hands of BY.  I still member the time I did a full turn, if you member his first off-season from that Panthers all-time worst team....... Answering questions at his first presser, he goes along the lines " I didn't do nothing, no weight room or throwing" " I needed to get away". I was fully out with him, the guy didn't even try to improve his football mind, body, strength, in the biggest joke of panther football. I could not believe it, what a leader or dare say "point guard"(lols @ NBA point guards as a ref)
    • I view FS almost as the NT of the secondary. Oftentimes the true measure of his impact isn't necessarily in the plays that he makes but what he allows you to do with the rest of your defense to allow them to make plays. When you have that elite true sideline to sideline FS safety blanket over the top of the defense it allows you to be a lot more aggressive with everyone else. Where as when you have a Nick Scott as your last line of defense you gotta be mindful to not have to rely too heavily on that.
