FO on ESPN: CAR should sign Michael Crabtree

Living in the bay area i see all of the 49er games and Crabtree is a really good receiver. He doesn't have deep speed, but he is an above average route runner and gets plenty of seperation. He is an upgrade over Jericho Cotchery. I'd rather have him over Torrey Smith, who i think is a one trick pony.

Crabtree hasn't had a quality QB throwing him the football either. As for Kaepernick, I have personally heard come out of one of his starting receiver/TE's mouth that Kaepernick has no rapport with any of the offensive players, and that his attitude is terrible.

a younger Cotchery? Compare them during the 1st six seasons of their careers:

Crabtree - two 800-yd seasons

age 22 (2009) - 625 yds, 2 TD

age 23 (2010) - 741 yds, 6 TD

age 24 (2011) - 874 yds, 4 TD

age 25 (2012) - 1105 yds, 9 TD

age 26 (2013) - 284 yds, 1 TD

age 27 (2014) - 698 yds, 4 TD

Jerricho Cotchery (all with Jets) - four 800-yd seasons

age 22 (2004) - 60 yds, 0 TD

age 23 (2005) - 251 yds, 0 TD

age 24 (2006) - 961 yds, 6 TD

age 25 (2007) - 1130 yds, 2 TD

age 26 (2008) - 858 yds, 5 TD

age 27 (2009) - 821 yds, 3 TD

note that after he was 27, Cotchery wasn't as productive:

2010 (Jets) - 433 yds, 2 TD

2011 (PIT) - 237 yds, 2 TD

2012 (PIT) - 205 yds, 0 TD

2013 (PIT) - 602 yds, 10 TD

2014 (CAR) - 580 yds, 1 TD

Those stats support him being a younger Cotchery if you were trying to prove otherwise.

Edit: If you weren't, good job.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Kaepernik and Newton have nearly identical passing production the past two years.

Sigh...

Cam didn't have a top 3 offensive line. Cam didn't have Frank Gore to hand off to. Cam didn't have Anquan Boldin, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Stevie Johnson, and Brandon Lloyd. Kaepernick didn't have a surgically repaired ankle, cracked ribs, or cracked vertebrates and he most certainly didn't have the most conservative coaching staff in all of football. A simple eye test should be able to distinguish the two.

This guy is highly overrated.

Not quite sure how you overrate a WR who has a 60% passer in Kaepernick as your QB.

Look, Frank Gore and Vernon Davis were Kap's primary targets the last couple years. The design of the SF offense simply does not require a speedy, deep threat. The team has a QB who throws a terrible deep ball and Crabtree is a wasted talent on that roster.

He has great hands and does get separation out of the break, which are 2 more attributes none of the current Panther WRs have.

    • Outside of cerrato, I do like our draft overall. Hard to get can't miss draft picks when you pick late in the draft
    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
