Rivera said countless times we so or have drafted Russell Wilson as a backup. Imagine ripple effect.

oh boy it's the age old "wilson has no weapons and still wins teh games!1" argument

the discussion begins and ends with the fact that the seahawks' west coast system is night and day different from the panthers' coryell system with erhardt-perkins concepts.  kearse, baldwin, and yes wilson would all suck in carolina because the kind of offense we run needs serious downfield speed to work the way it's supposed to.

for what it's worth i think cam would be awful in a west coast system too so all you huddle wolfpack fans can take it easy

The whining on here would be epic if Doug Baldwin was Cam's #1 with Jermaine Kearse as the #2. Regardless of how good our defense was people would be screaming for better weapons. Whenever Wilson is discussed his defense is mentioned as a weapon for him, I don't remember the same for Cam last year when we had the #2 defense, or even this year when our defense carried us the second half of the year. It's OK to give other quarterbacks credit for what they do without having to try to diminish it every way possible to make Cam look better by comparison.

The difference is that in 2013, Shula's efficient, ball control offense worked very well. In 2014, we tried using a little more Coryell downfield attacks, but with incredibly slow receivers. The deep passes on third and short really hampered the ball control offense.

Contrast that with 2011, when the offense carried the team. Remember our defense that season featured James Anderson and a bunch of guys who couldn't make Arena football rosters. We know what Cam is capable of doing when he isn't hampered by the read option base offense, or the "get the ball to the 45 and punt for field position" philosophy.

It has nothing to do with diminishing Wilson's achievements. The guy is the absolute perfect quarterback for his team. He knows his receivers. He lobs the ball up so only they can get to it. Kearse and Baldwin have what our receivers don't have: speed. We know Wilson can kill teams with that lob. But can throw a laser over the middle? When the Seahawks are in a "forget a field goal, score a TD or lose" situation, he tends to throw interceptions (St. Louis 2012, Atlanta 2012 playoffs, Indianapolis 2013, San Fran 2013, Arizona 2013, Dallas 2014, New England Super Bowl). What that tells me is that teams who go to a Prevent look and keep everything in front of their DBs have a great chance at winning because, frankly, I don't think Wilson can handle those situations.

Speaking of Wilson's offensive supporting cast, he has what is probably one of the most underrated offensive supporting casts I've seen... maybe ever.

A solid offensive line that's great at run-blocking, and average (at worst) in pass protection.  Wilson helps hide the pass protection flaws at times, but they also do an equal job in reciprocating that effort by providing good enough protection on a consistent basis.

Lynch has been the best RB in the league over the past 3 years.

Two solid pass-catching TEs in Willson and Miller.

And by far the most underrated WR corps in the league because they're not big time names, and none were high draft picks.  Those guys constantly make the craziest clutch plays, get wide open, miraculous circus catches, they somehow consistently bring in the 50/50 jump balls and catching in traffic while also running the scramble drill and coming back to the ball to perfection.  Harvin (granted he didn't play much, but he made quite an impact when he did) and Tate were straight up playmakers while they were there too.  Tate was a #1 talent putting up #2 numbers while in Seattle.  Baldwin is pretty similar IMO.

Wilson is a good QB no doubt, but he has a lot more around him aside from a defense, despite what Wilson fanboys and the media say.  Just watch some Seattle games and see for yourself.

I would take those guys any day if you gave cam sea oline. Those guys punch holes and protect Wilson way better than our current group.

I don't understand some of the Wilson talk here, yes he has a lot of talent around him, but you cannot deny how good he is himself. With that being said, I don't know how well he would have done here with this coaching staff. That's the biggest factor to me.

Pete Carroll is up there with Bill Belichick in terms of football mind. I wish Rivera could get even close to that level.
