Why "NOT" to take Press Conferences seriously this week

There will be more manure spread this week than ever before seen in the NFL.  With teams looking for misdirection, subterfuge or just interviewing idiots you just cannot take anything seriously anymore in the NFL media.

I thought it would be interesting to find examples of such, and it wasn't hard to find.

Not sure if anyone can top this but......

Lovie Smith says Mike Glennon can be franchise QB

The Bucs head coach spent part of Wednesday touting Mike Glennon as his franchise quarterback, an absurd notion considering that Smith only started Glennon in six games, and played the now-releasedJosh McCown down the stretch.

"Yeah, I think you can definitely say that Mike can be the quarterback that can play at a high level in this league," Smith said when asked if Glennon can be a franchise quarterback. "And I mean, we only have one quarterback on our roster. If you look at the comments I've made about him, yes, I think he can be that guy."

Added general manager Jason Licht: "We want him to be part of the future; we like him a lot."

You may think he's right, I definitely do not.

Serviceable for a few games?  Sure.  Franchise QB?  As in build the rest of your team around?  No.

And it is hilarious that either Smith or the GM can make that statement with a straight face, considering they are the one's who went out and grabbed McCown last offseason and yanked Glennon after six games.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
