Jacoby Jones released by the Ravens

General perception is that Jones is a better receiver than Ginn, but I'm not sure he's that much better.

 

The height thing could matter to Gettleman though.

 

Something about Jacoby I have always liked and wondered why he never got more targets at WR.

Whoever is cheaper I think Ginn has the leg up because he's younger and is familiar with the system already. Either one is an upgrade over what we have.

Ginn and Jones were drafted the same year (2007, Ginn in the 1st, Jones in the 3rd) but Jones is a year older.

 

Career stats are so close in nearly every area that the differences are negligible.

 

Ginn is probably the cheaper of the two.

 

Yes, Jones would be more expensive than Ginn.

This is another one of those times when I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions.

I don't understand how anyone can possibly say Ginn is better.  Jacoby is bigger, stronger, better route runner and has better hands than Ginn. Ginn did nothing as a receiver until he came to Carolina.  Jacoby went ham in the super bowl.  The guy has size and speed.  Two birds one stone..

I think I'd have to choose Jones depending on what he is asking. We have Brown who is similar to Ginn. I want Ginn back, it also helps because he is familiar with Cam and the system. But like Getts says, "you can't teach 6 feet 2 inches"

If we don't come away with one of these two, after seeing the importance of special teams last year...complete failure. Unless of course we're just ridiculously outbid or something weird happens.

Per Ian Rapoport, releasing Jones saves the Ravens...nothing.  His cap hit is not diminished.

 

Might not mean much, but still strikes me as odd.

When you combine this with the Ravens FO basically telling Steve Smith to think about whether or not he actually wants to come back, it looks like they are wanting to go younger and more affordable with their roster. Which isn't exactly a wild concept these days.

I don't think he's a better returner than ginn, but he definitely is a better receiver.

He also was close to signing with us before he signed with the Ravens. The released receiver crop this year is already better than it was the whole last off season lol.
