Pondering the chop block

It's being reported that the league's Competition Committee is considering a ban on it.

FYI: The Falcons offene this year would likely be one that uses cut blocks and chop blocks, so this could directly affect them (and others who run similar schemes, obviously).

Those are 1 inch market cuts, aren't they?  That's some good stuff right there.  You need to have a few bell peppers roasting too.

West Coast Offense teams tend to run zone blocking schemes which incorporate more cut blocks and chop blocks.

Mind you, I haven't sat down and analyzed the Seahawks, but I get the sense they would be one of the teams affected. So would the Broncos and probably the Ravens.

NFL coaches have said for years that if you eliminate the ability yo cut the backside D linemen that it would be virtually impossible to run the football. I say they'll figure it out. Cuts should be banned, period.

From what I've read, plain old cut blocking wouldn't be affected by this proposal.

It's only chop blocking (i.e. the old "high-low" trick) that they're talking about right now.

Cut blocking and chop blocking are two different styles.  Chop blocks will do more damage because two people hit high and low on the runner.  Chop is the dangerous one.
