Panthers Extend Greg Olsen

As a side note, this is Gman's first major extension, no? Wonder how Hurney would have handled this, probably 5 years and structured so it would be more expensive to cut him as time went on or something dumb. (Not that I see us having to cut Olsen in the next 3 years, obviously.)

Also, this may have already been discussed in this thread, but according to Spotrac, his 2015 cap hit is 10M and after that its 3M/year? If so that's brilliant, lets us take advantage of our extra cap space this year and gives us major flexibility for Cam/Luke's cap hits in 2016 and beyond.

Will save about $1.5 million in cap room at the most assuming the 3 years are added onto the end of his current contract meaning he has 4 years left on his deal. If it replaces his current deal and he is under contract for 3 more years, it saves about $500k. It's not much at all really because of the big signing bonus.

Thanks for answering.

I guess I am the Huddle tightwad but this makes him 3rd in the league in average salary?

I have nothing against him and hope he retires here, but being ahead of Witten?  I don't know, I guess in my world the team cap would be like $67 million or something and we would never sign a soul, but I try never to get too enthused for any player when we are spreading cash around.

He is a team leader, community leader, incredible player, etc.  I will crawl back under my rock now.

    • I thought he was from watching him play and also doing his first HC job. I thought he was the real deal  Apparently what happened is Kraft committed to Mayo and I don’t remember the timeline exactly - but Vrabel was unemployed at the same time Belichick was unemployed. They both were fired after the 2023 season.  Kraft hired Mayo. Who was kind of an obvious disaster. He probably already had the deal in place but I will give Kraft credit for not sleeping. With Vrabel out there for 2025 he made the move he needed to make and if it hurt Mayo’s feelings then oh well.  I guess you can tell I am not fond of Kraft but that was a really savvy move. At his age, pretty good. Still has it.
    • It’s going to feel like a home game for the bills. There are so many of their fans that live down here now, and many of them have never seen Allen play in person since their last visit was 8 years ago. It didn’t matter for the cowboys game, but it might here. I think we likely lose a close one. Probably a questionable flag or two that doesn’t go our way. X factor for Buffalo will be Kincaid and Knox. If we do win it’s because we get ahead and play keep away from Allen. FYI- I have many friends who are Bills fans that are fed up with Beane who we all revere and think is the one that got away. They feel like he was great to land Josh but has done a terrible job of building around him (especially at WR) and rely on him to become super man to win- sounds kind of familiar, like the last time we had a franchise QB.
    • I always thought of him as an uptight military family dude, didn't know he needs to wash that mouth out with soap lol.
