Panthers Sign Michael Oher

If I worked this hard to be so negative about sports, I'd just quit watching.

Why is refusing to view something with homer goggles "negative"? He's not a good tackle, and hasn't been a good tackle for quite some time. Does that mean he can't be a better player in Carolina? Absolutely not. But to assume he's going to turn around is foolish at best. He's been one of the worst Tackles in the league for multiple years now. No guarantee that he's better than Bell at LT either.

This signing is at best meh.

Oher is simply not a good OT. He has been terrible the past couple of seasons.

Right now you should only expect him to he vet depth with the POTENTIAL to be a decent stop gap.

It comes down to the money. Two years at 8 mil seems too much for a guy that has played as poorly as Oher has.

sure about that? because Oher allows more sacks per snap than Bell does. At RT, Oher allowed 1 sack per 108-109 snaps, while at RT, Bell only allowed 1 sack per 116-118 snaps. At LT, Oher allowed 1 sack per 92 snaps, while Bell only allowed 1 sack per 109 sacks

How many sacks did Cam prevent By scrambling? All those rushing yards weren't from designed QB runs.

There's a big difference between not viewing a move through homer goggles and scouring the internet far and wide to make dozens of posts about how horrible Oher is.

Last year everyone - including myself - bitched about Gettleman not addressing OT. Now he signs one and everyone still bitches. The FA OT market sucks. It's not like Jon Ogden and Orlando Pace in their prime are out there begging to play for the Panthers for vet min. Bulaga is the only proven quality starter on the market and he's probably gonna get paid like he's a future HOFer due to that.

I'm honestly not sure what some of y'all expected.

I think the mods need to start cracking down on "negative nancys"  Some of you are never happy with anything.  Can we not just welcome this guy to the team instead of bitch moan and groaning about things you dont know poo about or have any control over.

Rightfully so too. Jared Veldheer's cap hit last year was 2.5 million and he ended up as a top ten Offensive Tackle.....

    • I liked him when he was at Michigan because I'm a Wolverine homer. After that...
    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
