Free Falling Off The Market

Doug Free won't be available much longer.

Ian Rapoport        ✔ @RapSheetFollowThe #Cowboys are closing in on a multi-year deal to keep starting right tackle Doug Free, sources say. He’ll be off the free agent market.11:35 PM - 6 Mar 2015611 RETWEETS 593 FAVORITES

Not that anyone should really have expected him as an option after we signed Oher.

As an aside, whether you like it or not, Gettleman went in an aggressively got his man. The tie with Matsko and Oher's upside were too much to overlook considering the circumstances.

Like I have said, G-man may not be able to shop at the top, but he will aggressively get what fits. He won't be shy about getting his guy. LOL

Expect a similar attitude with his other targets.

Was never that big a fan of Doug Free.

Dallas tried him at left tackle and he wasn't that good. I think he only looks better now because of talent around him.

Perhaps you're right. I read that last season was one of Free's best.

Parnell, who filled in for Free last year and did a pretty good job could possibly be a target for us. Now that the Cowboys resigned Free Parnell will likely go somewhere where he has a chance to start. What better than Carolina? We have both tackle spots essentially up for grabs.

Parnell is ranked 8th by rotoworld, behind Bell at 6th. Oher was 15th... Interesting how they rank it since Parnell and Oher have looked better than Bell ever has. Free was 2nd behind Bulaga. Despite what Voth thinks, I think we'll sign another OT like Hairston or Parnell or someone.

Voth tweeted yesterday not to expect anymore moves at OT until the draft:

Re: Bulaga, Free, etc ... not expecting the #Panthers to sign another OT in the next couple weeks. It's Oher, Remmers & how draft falls.

I hope he's wrong on that, would like to see another vet FA brought in before the draft

    • Nah you are just haven't watched all of the playoffs....   And im referring the playoffs were hes currently sitting at .895 % and over 3 gaa    But again gotta beat the best.   Those of you who are gonna act like chicken littles before a matchup is even decided lol
    • No, I don't root for drops to be what loses a game, especially from a player who has/had drop issues, as that's not showing improvement. And no, I don't resent it if they win, just as I don't "celebrate" if we lose either.  But I don't get upset if we lose because I know it's for the best for our future, just like I don't go running through the streets celebrating a meaningless December win that doesn't do anything other than hurt our draft stock in a lost season. In a year like last year and this next year, where we've put considerable assets into the offense at the expense of our defense to be fixed later, something both fans and the team themselves know, as you can only add so many players in any given offseason.  Then I'm looking for us to click offensively, have everyone looking better than the year before and show growth.   But then the side of our team we know is a weakness, to be the reason we lose in a high scoring game.  Give me Bryce going down and taking a 2 point lead with 2-3 minutes left in the game, but then our defense almost holding the other team from getting into scoring position and they end up needing a 55 yard FG to win the game and beat us. That can happen while our young defensive players show tons of promise, but still have one or two too many holes and/or just inexperience that it costs us games in the end, but it's still a successful season of growth and improvement. Or even better, just look great on both sides in a close game and end up getting totally screwed by the refs with a bad late call that hands them the game. And again, those are the kinds of things I'm wanting to see happen once it's already a lost season.   And I'm only saying I'd rather not make the playoffs when the alternate scenario is making but losing in the first round. Because those are the scenarios where we improve as a team, get better draft picks, and an easier schedule the next year.  You then use the cap space and higher draft picks to fill the remaining defensive holes with impact players and you're then cooking with gas in that next season and have real potential.
    • He's getting hot again. He always has a playoff streak.
