How is it that we never have enough cap space?

I remember Lucas he was basically Maxwell, no way in hell can you compare him to Dez or Hardy guys who were pro bowl caliber players. Neither Wahle nor Lucas ever made a pro bowl before reaching the panthers. Lucas wasn't even our number 1 corner

And neither of them were given huge contracts

Dez Bryant would have been ranked the #3 free agent this year. Hardy is #19.

At the time, Wahle was ranked as the #2 free agent and Ken Lucas as #13.

How is that not comparable?

We gave Anderson 50 mill? I must of missed that

A team like the Redskins who have overpaid FA constantly seem not to be affected at all, just last season they paid Jackson, 2 years before that Garcon. The Cowboys just gave Romo a huge contract, they are paying Dez 13 mill and still going after Murray. It can't all be on the salary cap, a guy like Jerry Jones seem to fork over more money in a year than Richardson has in his entire tenure

Cowboys have no talent worth a big contract on defense front 7 is how. They just lost 1 of their starting LBs to Atlanta (Durant) and another to Tampa (Carter) and neither team broke the bank to sign them.

On offense, Cowboys have drafted quality linemen the past few years and they are still on their rookie contracts. Only Romo, Bryant, Witten, and Tyron Smith have big contracts on offense.

Their cap space right now is $8.7 million, which they'll need for their draft class and to sign injury replacements during the season. They'll need to re-structure some contracts to make room for Murray.

Ranked by who espn? who in their right mind would consider Lucas or Wahle in the same category as Dez or Hardy. 2005 must of been a extremely weak free agency period when two non pro bowl non all pro players are so highly touted. I bet 80% of NFL fans couldn't tell you who Ken Lucas is.

You said using the redskins is bad example, how about using the  Patriots, Seahawks and Ravens all who signed  big name free agents and won SB

I don't know how its so hard to understand... A bad team signing a couple high dollar FA results in a bad team with a big payroll.

Why do they still have money? Because they cut the guys they signed the previous year because they realized paying a WR big money is useless when your defense sucks, or your oline sucks, or your qb sucks.

How awesome was DeSean Jackson in Washington last year? If I remember correctly they got a couple good plays out of him. He also dealt with injuries and skins suffered instability at QB. They were also horrible on defense and struggled to run the ball with consistency. Why would you want to use that situation as an example to support the argument?

While I would entertain an argument about the Panthers offensive philosophies or even in game coaching/management I hardly have an issue with the direction of the team building. We are absolutely doing that the right way.

I don't get it, there are teams like the Cowboys, Redskins, Colts, Ravens ext.... who seem to be able to pay their own players and go after big name FA at the same time. If we give out a big contract is usually to one of our own players and that's it. Does having a more willing owner have something to do with it?

Lets say Hardy  never got in trouble, played the whole season and produced. What would have happen? Cause if we don't have enough money to sign a bunch of b class receivers how the hell were we going to sign Hardy?

Gooby pls...

So the last 3 SB winners are bad teams for being active in free agency?

BTW I never once said over pay for a FA, I'm just wondering if the owner has anything to do with it,

I'm also wondering what would happen to Hardy if it played out like I mentioned. I keep hearing its not Gettleman's fault we have no cap space to sign a WR ( who wouldn't cost that much to being with) yet we planed on signing Hardy this offseason?

Hardy was never going to be re-signed. So he didn't need to be accounted for.

As far as your comment on our owner spending money, every team in the league is required to spend basically the same amount of money on player payroll every few years.

Go read up on this stuff before creating silly threads, please.
