I was wrong about why the Panthers are sitting back and David Newton at ESPN pointed it out in his article. I thought the team had 11 million in cap room after they allocate money for the drafted players but actually it is at 4 million. So, now I understand that the team simply does not have the money. I posted this as a new topic just in case other people are thinking we have the money and just sitting back doing nothing. Now that I admitted that let the bashing happen lol.

Looking ahead at the next two seasons at least, the Panthers will have plenty of room to keep their own and venture out for above average starters. Until then, we just have to hope we find free agent gems and we keep nailing the draft. That will set the team up for a nice 6-8 year window to win a Super Bowl.

What made everybody think we just magically got massive cap space lately?

 

Most fans who do not follow the cap religiously hear the media throw out the 11 million dollar number and assume that is how much we have to spend because why say that and not take out money for drafted players already. I think that David Newton article will calm a lot of mad fans down like myself. I do know we have a good amount of cap next year and the year after even after including 30 to 40 million for Newton/Luke deals.

The cap confuses me. We are out of money but the Saints were way over and are still signing guys.

I know it will hurt them in the long run, but it still confuses me.

It can confuse anyone.  There's a billion ways to manipulate it.  We could have signed some of these bigger name free agents by manipulating it certain ways, but in the long term scheme of things, it will only hurt you.  I know it kind of sucks that we can't get one or two of those guys, but thankfully, we're working on making the cap healthy.  It will start to show by next season, even after signing Cam(and maybe Luke to).

      this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.

      The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.

      My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
