The Breakfast Club 30th anniversary or Damn, now you are old!

John Hughes is one of those directors who is, essentially, a genre by themselves. On the one hand, I miss his films and treatment of teenage life and comedy terribly. But on the other hand, they are so everlasting. They aren't timeless - surely my children will dread the day their father makes them watch Ferris Bueller - but they will never feel outdated to me.

By the time this movie came out I was in my early 20s - went to see it because I would read the phone book if Hughes wrote it at the time, and thought it had it's moments, but really Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink were my faves - Molly Ringwald just wasn't loveable in this movie and I thought she was a great actress as well as wierdly hot.

i've gotten used to feeling old.

loved that movie. i think that was probably the first movie that told the generation x story....at least from a middle/high school PoV. i think we were probably the first generation whose parents were too busy for them. we were basically the first group of kids to grow up where both parents working full time was the norm and i think we were also the first generation to experience high rates of divorce in our families. it was a rough time to be a kid because no one before us had ever had to go through that stuff. we grew up understanding that life was supposed to be not that different from the way our parents had grown up and all of a sudden the rules of the game changed and we were left to figure it out on our own. parents had high expectations of their kids (which wasn't new) but weren't around to help out.

it was good seeing that there were others going through so much of the same thing.

    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
    • Sure.    ignore that he said this roster wasn’t good in 2023 to 2024 but keep up the effort
    • While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
