Panthers claim OT Jonathan Martin

I am excited Martin is here. With our locker room and with Rivera's support there is every reason to believe that Martin can return to his former level. What a no-brainer. Who gets a potential left or right starting NFL tackle off waivers unless there were issues. I don't think that football has to include bullying and intimidation. Particularly from your own guys. I hope he can contribute and fit in. A win- win for everyone. What is there not to like?

How much? If its close to an NFL salary, i would probably do it.

But like I said, its not as important for me to be tough as it is for him to be.

I honestly dont hate the signing because it is an upgrade over what we had.. That being said, I would prefer to have players that dont allow themselves to be a victim of bullying. I'm not trying to sound like an a-hole. I'm sure Martin is a good guy and I probably would respect him. You just have to question his mental toughness, because the situation he was in is not common among men or nfl players.

Kind of like how folks are questioning your mental competence right about now?

And yet here he is. With a thread

This is what happens when our best off seasons signing  are a 4th string WR, a 5th string WR and an OT that's on his 3rd team in 3 years. slow off-season

We need to hit a HR with all of our offensive draft picks this year, cause as it stands right now we are still stuck in the purgatory of mediocre offenses.

Ummmm... what?

in 14' under the scrutinity of the media the NFL was lambasted for not levying appropriate punishment for domestic viloence, and Hardy became the poster child for Goodells exempt list.then in 13' abuse presented itself in the form of bullying and Martin was the victim.i am not sure, but I believe the league banned hazing at the conclusion of this particular probe

anyway the Panthers release Hardy during the off-season (15') and Steve Smith the previous off-season (14')and it's a well known FACT that he not only bullied his teammates verbally but also physically.so it just leads me to believe that this team values image and creating a healthy environment for players such as Martin moreso than abusive talent.

sure it's pure speculation on my part that signing Martin was a PR move, and i could very well be wrong.however,if he comes in and publicly expresses what a great organization the Panthers are,and how it allowed him the opportunity to reinvinte himself...well...

Debbie Downer. Oline is improved. We Corp improved. St teams improved. We are a lot better than last year and Gettleman isn't done.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
