Running backs other than Gurley

Honestly if we don't get Gurley. I wouldn't mind looking at Jay Ajayi, Tevin Coleman, and Jeremy Langford.

Coleman is very interesting, probably the third best back in the class (or 2nd given Gurley's injury). I've actually seen him in the first in a couple mocks.

Tevin Coleman, but it seems like Ameer Abdullah has just fallen off the face of the planet in the last couple of months.  That kid's a really good football player and could be a steal late.

Johnson's stick will rise significantly after tomorrow's pro day. They'll be talking about him for days and how under rated and under valued he is going into the draft. He an do it all and will likely be the best back in the class imo

Coleman is a good running back in a zone system. If you watch him run he runs very straight up and down and does not really run behind his pads at all.  He is fast and makes good cuts and seems to have good vision, it's hard to tell all the runs out of the spread if its good vision or just no one in the box anymore.

 

Honestly, if Gurley does not fall to 25, I would wait until the 3rd day to pick up a back.  A guy like Cameron Artis-Payne or, my personal favorite, Kalros Williams will probably be around in the 4th and maybe the 5th round.  Payne because he will be 25 before he ever plays in the NFL and Williams because he has only 2 years of playing experience at rb. 

 

I don't think their is much of a drop off in talent from a guy like Ajayi or Duke Johnson to Payne or Karlos Williams.

Karlos Williams is probably not on our draft board due to the domestic violence issue.  Yeah, he wasn't charged, but I still don't think JR will let Gettleman touch him.

I like Tevin Coleman a lot. puts immediate pressure on 2nd and 3rd level of defense after he crosses LOS. his speed is a weapon. he definitely fits the stated desire by Gettleman and Rivera to put more speed on the field. just the kind of thing that would make the read option more of a headache for defenses.
