A closer look at Todd Gurley

I know the value is not there for running backs in the first round anymore. But can the Panthers pass up on a player like Todd Gurley if he is there at 25? I would like to think no. Gettleman philosophy is to run to set up the pass and stop the run to set up the pass rush. Adding a player like Todd Gurley to our offense gives Cam a weapon to take pressure of the offense and take a ton of pressure off our defense if we can control the clock. A player like Todd Gurley plays directly into Dave Gettleman philosophy. If he is on board at 25 I just can't see us passing up on that big play potential.

I'm just curious, are RBs devalued, or are they still game changers worthy of high 1st round picks?

IMO you take game changers any and every time they are available. That's the BPA way right? If TG is there at 25 he most certainly will be a Panther.

Another great breakdown, thanks for the analysis. I think Gurley is going to be pretty outstanding at the next level as long as he can stay healthy.

This is my problem as well. I'm not sure but if his only injury history is the ACL in 2014 and ankle in 2013 then maybe his injury history is being overhyped. If we do draft him then we will use a 2 back system which will help keep our RBs healthy.

If Gurley is there...you choose him bc his is a top 3 player in this draft without question.

If you could platoon AP with Jonathan Stewart would you? Then you take this guy who is other worldly when he is healthy.

Not if it would cost me the season.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
