For a projected second rounder, I can see why some may be looking at other guys like Greene, Dorsett, or Smith but how close do you place Funchess in regards to the rest of the wide receiver prospects?  I mean he's not slow by any means and is over 6'4 at 230 lbs.

Given his size, he's still got good speed and is right on that WR/TE fringe so it could be interesting how a team uses him.  I know many are looking to those really fast guys in the draft like Agholor/Dorsett/Smith/Lockett but what is your opinion on Funchess?  Do you think he has value if available there in the 2nd? Or is he more 3rd and beyond?

I'd actually rather have guys like this then straight speed guys, considering Cam isn't all that accurate at times.

We need to take a page out of the Steelers offense. No more slow possession receivers please.

I haven't seen any tape on him, but his "weaknesses" on his draft profile are a concern... specifically, "Isn't a lock to high-point a throw and doesn't attack throws. Won't win enough 50/50 throws."

 

That's a pretty important factor when you have a big frame, but not so much speed.  Of course, you have to take that with a grain of salt, but it's a decent indicator.

This X 100.   Panthers have the ability to create a mismatch with size (KB) and route running (Olsen).  We don't need another of the same thing.  We all saw how much the passing offense improved once Philly Brown got more involved, now imagine someone better than Philly.  Could Funchess contribute?  Most definitely.  I just don't think he addresses our needs on offense.  The lack of speed.

 

 

And before the speed aint everything people show up. Speed in our secondary improved our Defense tremendously.   It would be the same on offense.

Only problem is Cam doesn't hit guys in stride very consistently, so I don't know what a speed guy is going to do other than be a decoy half the time.

Open up the offense and keep the defense honest. A big play now and then for a TD.

      Well if he comes back, he's signed through 2030 along with Dave Canales. They matched up Evero's contract with Canales.    January 2030 for both.

      I also look at his work there and match it up against the planned obsolescence that is part of the NFL as it sits now. Part of what creates parity here is that as a team ascends, the costs of its players go up, the position of its draft picks go down, it's great players age or get injured to often, their assistant coaches get poached for higher positions elsewhere. And even the best of managers can't hold that off forever.  Great managers can only play the shell game for so long, covering one hole in the team while another wears through, betting it all on a small cadre of veteran stars, sifting through the diamonds in the rough, hoping for something great. Sometimes they can do it smartly, sometimes they just break and give in to the wrong contract here or there in a desperate attempt to hang onto something. Sometimes the voodoo juju just runs out and they find themselves catching up to that can they've been kicking down the road and they end up in cap hell for a couple of seasons. And the managers are also at the mercy of the whole coaching deal... great coaches eventually falter -- their schemes become old school, their locker rooms change.       By just about every account he is extremely impressive in an interview setting. I don't think he would be getting so many interviews if it was just about ticking a box. I am not saying some aren't trying to hit that bird with a stone too but I think many of these teams do have real interest. One does wonder if his on field results have kept him from getting a few of these.
