ESPN Live Mock Draft at 1pm

No way Gettleman passes on Shane Ray at 25. He's a blue goose pass rusher, and we all know how Gettleman feels about pass rushers.

That's true, but he's not a very big guy.  The only guy I see Gettleman taking with that size, would be Vic Beasley.

That's no excuse.

Smith has a limited route tree. In this mock, we basically just drafted a #3 at 25.

Smith would walk in and instantly become the #2. As much as I like Philly, I think he's best suited to the slot.

This....limited route tree and iffy hands, yet only taken because he is fast.

We already have that clone in Stephen Hill.

That sounds oddly familiar. Oh yeah, it's how most people described Benji before we drafted him.

Kid is a deep threat and we sorely need that right now.

L O L

Not gonna happen...at least not like that.

If we pick Smith with some of these other guys on the board, I will need a chin strap on Thursday because my jaw will hit the floor, and probably stay that way for hours. Can't be dragging my chin on the floor.

I think a lot of you are selling Devin Smith short.  He does a great job of using head fakes and shoulder movements to get defenders off balance.  I think of him as a slightly less explosive more reliable Desean Jackson.  I think the thing he does best is track the deep ball and separate while the ball is in the air.  People often undervalue the ability to look up at the ball and continue running full speed.  You add Devin Smith to Cam Newton and this offense we are instantly more explosive.  How many times does Cam buy extra time and look up for a WR that has a step on his man.  Devon Smith will be that guy, the fit is perfect.

He is a much better prospect than Dorsett, don't just look at the speed numbers.  Who cares if his route tree is limited.  He can run a curl, Bubble Screen, Post, and Fade.  In this offense with this QB he doesn't need to do much more.

Benji does have very iffy hands....what is your point.

I prefer not to have my #1 and #2 WR's have questionable hands.

Smith gives you NOTHING that we do not have with Ginn and Hill....fast vertical speed with questionable hands.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
